$30-40k for a frame and easily registered VIN to be used as the basis for a custom rebuild does seem rather steep when you think about it.  Damned shame to have to rebuild a companies "flagship" product from stem to stern to get something that you really want.  In my next life I intend to be extremely wealthy, so I can just pay someone else to take care of all that stuff.  I'll ride it and someone else will build it, fix it, clean it, maintain it, and take care of all the headaches.  And it won't be a Harley, because even a rich guy gets tired of constantly having to have stuff fixed.

My2ndcvo,

Can you clarify for us what stock means, it has so many meanings on this site   :huepfenlol2:    :huepfenlol2:    :huepfenlol2:

That's funny right there. Hell I know a dealer that has a third inventory of new bikes that are not stock. Off topic?? I thought we had just evolved. :coolblue:

So what should our answer be when the Hwy Patrol stops us and asks  "do you know how fast you were going?"

"Gee Officer, I don't know.....the speedometer only goes to 120"...... :nervous:

Nah.  Probably more like, "Gee Officer, it's only an overweight underpowered Harley with really cheap gauges.  How fast could it possibly go?"

Couldn't tell if that was a "trip" odometer reading for Knothead or actual milage.  If (actual),  he is from that school of thought that says..........break 'em in fast :confused5:

As Jerry mentioned earlier....there are bikes built to go 120 mph or greater.  HD (with the exception of the V-Rod) is not one of them.  Sure have buried the speedo on my HDs & certain the speedo is off by a few mph.  2-3 mph seems to be about average at 70 mph so figure twice that or so at 120 mph.  It's one thing to hit 120 & touch it then back off.  Entirely another thing to RUN 120 mph + for an extended time or over many miles.  North of 100 mph my HDs are not exactly as road worthy as they are at less than 100, generally speaking.  I don't have a new suspension (Traxxion or ?) & that is one thing the stock bikes lack for going fast.

A few brands come to mind for that type of riding.  HD is not one of them.

True that.. not sure how many of us would even want to run 120mph for miles and miles. I'd say that should be reserved for tracks and not the open roads. However, there's always that wondering about how fast can it go and how fast will you allow yourself to go.
