I'm having a hard time seeing where they were going with that cowling over the passnger seat and the cafe fairing. Doesn't go with the rest of the bike even a little.

Yep, even the new Indians vibrate.  At 3k rpm, the vibes start to set in.  However, the engines have a higher hp rating, and come with Baker six speeds.  Production numbers, etc. are easily available:  www.indianmotorcyclecommunity.com

They are definately not anywhere as smooth at my 3xRed 2000, which is the smoothest bike I've ever owned.  However, I did love my 2003 T3 Chief, but it did have problems.  My other 03 Chief blew the motor in 2k miles.  Believe me, the early Gilroy Indians were rolling disasters.  Here's an expression we had

"Indian, making mechanics out of riders for over 100 years."

The National Ralley is always fun, and one of the best I've ever attended.

If you want an Indian, open the Custom Chrome catalog and order away..... ;)

It's just too bad as just a little time with a bit of attention to detail would make a huge improvement.

The fit and finish is excellent, and no gripes there.  Their proprietory engine looks good and puts out great torque and hp numbers, way more than a stock HD. However as I said before, there are certain features that need to be addressed such as fairing, info center, cruise, and counter balanced or rubber mount engine.  None of the parts from Custom Chrome will fit the new Indian, but they did fit to a degree on the Gilroys.

Indian has said they are not for the masses, but for the discriminating buyer, whatever that means.

I'll either ride the 3xRed SE to the ralley or my radical Honda chopper.  They don't care what you ride, as I've ridden with them for years, just show up and have fun.

First saw the new Indians at Laconia last summer and really liked the look. Went to the closest dealer to me ( live in Nova Scotia) which is in Mass. Took the Vintage (which is the model I prefer) down the road for about twenty minuts then back . The bike is stunning to look at . Fit and finish seemed very good . But as mentioned in an earlier post vibration is a big issue . I put quite a few kilometres on my Ultra CVO so the Indian could not possibly replace my bike which I love. I see the Indian as more a bar / coffee shop hopper . But I still think it's one hell of a pretty bike . Just not for me . I am including a few pictures starting with the one I test drove.

Indian Chief Bomber. Just a 2010 model and I think they built 100 in the two colors.
