----------------------
It does p*** me off that it is the greedy money people that are driving the increase. No shortage of gas.

Funny thing about that.  I remember when people complained about how the refineries, distributors, and retailers jacked up prices as soon as the "futures" price for crude went up, since that "maybe" crude oil price had nothing to do with what the gas in those tanks cost.  The answer was, "we set our pricing based on our replacement costs, not our current production costs" or some such BS.  Hmmmmm.  I wonder how that works with the recent drop in crude prices that was followed by a $.20 increase at the pump around here?  Gotta love the crooks, be they fund managers playing games in the futures markets, or the oil companies playing games at the wholesale and retail levels.

Anyway, back to the subject of the thread.  I think that anyone who has a $30k - $40k CVO toy and really has to worry about gas prices needs to unload the toys.  In case anyone missed it, living well beyond your means has fallen out of favor as a life strategy.  If you can't afford it, get rid of it.  Or just let it sit in the garage and invite the guys over to sit around looking at it while sipping some cheap generic beer from Costco.

And you still haven't learned not to buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?!

Nothing is free. You gotta pay to play. 13 years with this wife so far. She doesn't really like to ride, 100 miles from home is her limit, she has no desire to ride her own bike, so she will happily stay home and scrapbook. I don't like dragging around an anchor either, I ride hard and travel light, so it works out nicely.

Your wife sounds like mine with the scrapbooking.  However, mine does like to ride we just don't get out enough.

No effect on trips for us, a dollar or so more? Not a big deal. May as well accept it and go on, don't see it ever going back down much. Used to have boats that got around 1.5 to 3 mpg so 18 mpg car or 40 mpg bike seems cheap by comparison.

  • Hard Work will get you everything

I'm still working mostly for something to do,
but i do commute 95 miles a day, I have a VW golf diesel TDI, that gets 49 mpg back and forth to work,
but I do ride the scooter to work everyday when i can ( i think i work just to have a place to ride too everyday :))
the cost is about the same (gas $ 3.99 over Diesel $4.35,mpg) (the bike did cost about twice as much as the car.)

We still plan on taking a couple two week camping  trips on the bike over the summer :)
We also have some 500 miles a day porker rides comming up.

It won't change my plans for a trip to the Detroit area around Woodward Dream Cruise time. In my F150, dragging a 24' trailer with my bike and Mustang in it.

Double agree mate nothins free. My wife rides her own so I get to ride like you hard and fast. I'll slow down every now and then to let the "ole lady" riders catch up. Most are men. Better milage too. Oh crap who am I kidding I got to gas up two bikes.

When i calculate taking the Motor Home and dragging the trailer w/the CVO i come up with an average of $1.00 a mile (round trip) to go anywhere of significance. Riding the bike and staying in some of the nicest hotels actually would save me money! :2vrolijk_21:

And to add fuel to the fire.....the oil companies keep showing record profits each quarter.  I was surprised that BP was able to during the deep water issue last year. :nixweiss:  Supposedly, at that time, that's why gas prices shot up.
