Let's try it.??

The road from Tellico Plains to Robinsville is the Cherohala Skyway and the 129 is the Dragon. Actually the section from Deals Gap to the lake is the Tail of the Dragon.

Holy Cow Batman I did it. :drink: :huepfenlol2:

421 from Hooslton lake to Mountain city is the Snake. Actually some may consider the section of 421 all the way the Boone part of the Snake but I do not run that way much.

116 from Carryville to Petros is the Devils Triangle.

State Rd. 70 runs from Jonesville Va. through Greenville up to the NC line.

Dr. D,

Thank you!  Great maps!  Was there during MV 10.  Loved the area and people!

Depending on how many days you have consider State rd. 70 that runs north to south from Jonesville Va. thru  Greenville up into NC. Over all a most favorite of mine as it has every nice component that blue ribbon road should have. Mountains, flats, curves, speed, towns, farms, scenic +++. Loop over through Hot Springs NC and down US 70 to Newport. You will find the  Barbarosa biker bar on the river between Hot Springs and Newport, there is your beer stop mate. :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks!  Lonesome Pine Trail Hwy. 70 looks like a good run.  Have been through Hot Springs a lot - little hippie town - good roads in & out.  Barbarosa is an ideal beer stop on that one.  Work gets in the way of fun, may take another day to play in that area. :2vrolijk_21: :drink:

If you are able to mark the start and end points, google will trace the route and make it real obvious for us slow on the pick up southwestern types.

Hey, for us non-easterners who are unfamiliar with these runs, could you put up google maps of;

Snake,
Dragon,
Devil's Triangle &
Cherahola

It would be nice to know where the ends (start/stop) are located and what constitutes each run. If map screen capture doesn't work, maybe links to  google maps of the routes.

Thanks
DH

Hey Simon:  You come east...I'll be your personal tour guide...Bubba Love said that!!

I'll get it bro. The Tail of the dragon is more like this.http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=US-129+S%2FState+Hwy+115&daddr=US-129+S&geocode=FVYFHgIdPWb--g%3BFTYZHQId8HT_-g&hl=en&mra=dme&mrsp=1&sz=11&sll=35.43326,-83.890228&sspn=0.25512,0.441513&ie=UTF8&z=11

You got it on the others except the Devils Triangle starts in Lake City not Carryville, my bad.

Exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!

If it is 12 miles thought I bet you don't run it in 15 min. The road is overrated IMHO. It is right left right left right left............all in second gear with very little to see. If you are looking off however you will be off. I trained the wife on roads in our counties and then found the Dragon to less of a challenge.

Snake
Devils Triangle
Cherohala
and State Rd. 70 are much better rides

My opinion on Deal's Gap/The Dragon is that it got famous in part because of a photographer who set up there on weekends.  Daryl Canon  aka killboy.com takes pics there & he takes bike pics for folks to buy in addition to the wreck pics he takes.  The trucks and all busting lanes - in pictures - gives the road a sort of notoriety it would not have were it not documented.

The killboy.com site is one I check regularly because for me it is entertaining.  Have bought a number of pics from Dary & his wife Lori over the years.  Use them as screensavers also - great pics - high def - remind me of riding the Smokies which I truly enjoy.

The Dragon tshirt shop also had a big part in it.  No telling how many tshirts they sell in a year but it's a lot.

As to fun rides I like Hellbender as much or more and Waya road is always a blast, just to name a couple in the general area.
