SORRY I SAW YOUR THREAD BEING HIJACKED AND JUMPED ON THE BAND WAGON. WITH IC ENGINES TODAY BREAK IN IS NOT AS CRITICAL AS IT USED TO BE.  RIDE IT NORMALLY AND ADD POWER AND REVS AS YOU ACCUMULATE MORE MILES, THEN CHANGE THE OIL AT HARLEYS SPECIFIED MILEAGE AND YOU'RE GOOD TO GO.  I DONT BELEIVE IN CHANGING OIL AFTER 50-100-250-500.  HARLEY DOES AN AWFULW LOT OF TESTING ON THEIR MACHINES AND AS THE MANUFACTURER THEY HAVE MORE DATA THAN ANY OF USE WILL EVER GATHER IN OUR LIFE TIMES. FOLLOW THE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE AND YOU WILL NOT BE LEAD ADSTRAY.

Thanks...McFlyer...

That is what I was really asking.....

If you have an untouched Jim's 131, your fun will end around 2,000 miles. Start saving up now, cause you'll be shelling out the $$ to fix their JUNK    :P

OUCH!!  Can't comment on their life-span, but their performance pales in comparison to Zipper's.  8)  Later--HUBBARD

I got 5,000 miles out of my Jim's 120. Rebuilt it as a 131, with a welded crank. Don't have 5,000 miles on that one yet, so, I can't comment.

Other than to say their customer service sucks.

;D   Yup, from what I've heard and read, it appears the folks at Jim's went to the same customer disservice school that Harley-Davidson uses.  Build crap, sell crap, blame all problems on the customers, PO the customers,  kick back and count the ill-gotten gains.  As long as people keep drinking the you-know-what, nothing changes.

I do suscribe to the school of thought that your motor basically gets "broken in" during the first 50 miles...at least with regards to the rings getting seated.  So, I run the oil that came in the bike (in this case Syn3), do several runs in 3rd gear up to 60mph (after the motor is completely warmed up), and let the motor brake the bike back down to 2K RPM.  Whether this actually makes any difference is up for endless debate, but IMO it doesn't hurt anything either.  I then dump the oil and change the filter at 50 or so miles and put in my oil of choice for the next 950 miles.  At 1K, I change the oil/filter again, drain the transmission and primary, and put oil in each hole that is made for the application.  Personally, that was Redline products on the new SERGU, but Amsoil, Mobil 1, etc are all good.  However, I do think it's better to put a transmission oil in the transmission, rather than the same thing in all three holes.  I know for a fact that putting a transmission specific product makes a difference in how much noise the tranny makes, and also makes shifting and finding neutral easier.  Again, I like Redline Shockproof in the Tranny, and their MTL in the primary, but that's just my preference, and again, other products work just as well.  Other than Syn 3, which I personally think is crap compared to other available products.  I do have some subjective reasons for my thoughts on this subject, and some practical experience with the products I personally prefer, but my opinion is like buttholes...everybody has one, and some people are buttholes with opinions, but I try not to be the latter...

And I also like K&N oil filters...for one really simple reason:  they have a neat little 17mm nut welded on the end which makes changing the oil filter much easier for me.  Otherwise, I'd be fine with other brands with regards to how they perform.

I do think that changing fluids any more frequently than 5k intervals (unless you put < 5K per year on your bike) is a waste of time, money, and valuable resources...after changing everything at 1K.  In truth, the intervals could be longer, but then HD would have an excuse to deny warranty claims, and they have plenty of excuses already without me giving them an easy one.  So I follow the yellow brick road with regards to their suggested service intervals...but I choose to pick my own products that meet/exceed their own.

Well when your dealing with a bike that is under warranty and you want it to stay in warranty and you've gone through 3 motors from the Moco since new God forbid you use an oil of your choice like Amsoil in my case. The reason my motors failed from the Moco is because I was using to good of oil compared to the Syn 3. Amsoil is to slippery and to good of an oil for the 110. Since I am on my 3rd motor all things are running good and boy that Syn 3 is really making that motor run good!! I never realized that using Harley Syn 3 was the answer to a good break-in and awesome running motor! I guess following the Moco's Area Rep is the answer to long jevity with the 110!!

I've been ridin and I'm still havin fun, guys... 131... Have Latus break-in your JIMS. Then you won't have all those follies that a lot of people are belly aching about. I have a newer style JIMS with Timken Bearing. The crank is welded by JIMS. I'm not saying JIMS or any other motor is bullet proof, but a lot of this sh!t y'all complaining about can be minimized.

Break-in can determine the life of your motor. So spend the extra bucks to have your motor broke-in properly. You can use dino for the lifetime of the motor. I just have a preference.

Cheers...

That's what the MoCo used to claim about all synthetics until they came out with their own. :nixweiss:  And it certainly begs the question "if it's the oil then why isn't everybody else' motor falling apart on them at such low miles?".

I wish you good luck with this 3rd motor Desertbear.....however, let's see what it's doing at about 30k-35k miles. :nixweiss:  My wife had 31k on her 96" 09 Street Glide and I had 30k on my 10 SESG when the flywheels went on both bikes......but we didn't have to listen to the "it's the oil" song they sing. :nixweiss:
