The atomic volume of N is higher than O. that's what matters. Not the weight.

Dang it! I just released all my high $$$$ nitrogen in the atmosphere when I installed my dyna beads a few weeks ago. I went back with free air. What a mistake putting something free on a Harley. Please don't Black list me, please.

.02$ I don't believe anyone is saying that the pressure in tires filled with nitrogen WILL NOT CHANGE (+ or -), but will not change as much as O2 will. If it makes you feel better having nitrogen in your tires then do so.

I'm thowing the bravo sierra flag on that one

You're implying that Oxygen is less dense than Nitrogen but density is calculated simply as weight divided by volume so the opposite is true because O2 is a heavier molecule.  I'm not sure what atomic volume is but in a fixed volume (like the inside of tire) all molecules are distribution evenly.

You'd be better off being concerned about water vapor in the compressed air.  That can condense when cold and vaporize when warm which would cause greater pressure changes.

Since most air contains water vapor, is Evian water vapor better for tires than Perrier water vapor?  I think my bike tires prefer Dos Equis vapor, actually.

I (considered)  putting Helium in my tires in order to make my tire treads last 22.84% longer than without Helium.  Helium is lighter than plain air & as such is far superior to Nitrogen, in my opinion. Less bike weight per tire/ground contact point.  The lady at the flower shop is supposed to give me the last of her next Baloon filling tank.  Am trying it in the front tire first, to make bigger wheelies of course.

Can we argue discuss spark plug gaps & types and oil next?  Please?

Wait a minute.....I think somebody put dyna beads on the list next. :nervous:

I vote Evian, it's Naive backwords and is the Chuck Norris of spring water.  Besides, Perrier is carbonated.  The carbonic acid will corrode the inside of my rims.

You're all a bunch of weenies!  Us tough guys use propane in our Harley tires.  When the POS bike won't run, it serves quite well as a backup source of fuel for the barbecue grill.

There's nothing tough about that.  I use methane.  From a Texas Longhorn.  Tapping that supply takes some dedication!

I don't think the approval of bovine flatulance has been ratified as a tire pressurizer yet, scofflaw!

Dyna beads biatchfest next in que - check.

Evian no rust rims - check.

Propane and or methane back up fuel supply in tires check check.

A little off topic - am searching for a new fairing monkey that is a trained HD smian to ride inside my fairing.  The one that came with my bike ran away...

I love how people fall for this BS about nitrogen and temperature changes.  Rather than listen to me, go to any high school science teacher and have them explain the various gas laws, especially the part about temperature versus volume and pressure.  Also, next time you're listening to those announcers on that racing program, pay attention to how they mention getting the tires up to temp to get the pressures up before leaning on it too hard.  If nitrogen pressure wasn't affected by temps, why would the racers need to consider that when inflating those tires?

BTW, I use plain old 78% nitrogen mixed with various other stuff, versus the 98% max nitrogen they sell at the typical tire store, and I also don't have major air loss.  It has a lot more to do with the tire, rim, and valve than it does the percentage of nitrogen in the tire.

I was reading a Mr. Goodwrench ad for a Chevy dealer in the paper this morning, and the absolutely ridiculous claims being made for nitrogen made me laugh louder than anything in the comic section.  For only $39.95, this stuff will do everything but grow hair.  And as a famous person once said, a sucker is born every minute.

Jerry

Oh, that pressure thing?  Try changing the claim in the future to something more along the lines of "when using pure nitrogen, pressure changes due to temperature changes will be more predictable".  That statement is correct, the other is not.
As far as being a sucker if you can get it for free and you are happy with the performance of the product whether it works or not who is being harmed  must be nice to know all Hows the air up there????
