Not complaining here, as I feel blessed compared to the people who took direct hits in Alabama, but, this flooding is getting ridiculous. ReelFoot lake had another 4" of rain yesterday. I've made a couple of trips there this past weekend, just to keep an eye on water levels. I'll probably go back today, just because of the additional rain.
Drove to Hickman Ky Saturday, and the tug boat pushing the barges full of explosives to bird point Mo. was in the harbor. Weird feeling to look UP at the bottom of the barge, 20' over a city street. State troopers, Corps of Engineers, and military vehicles guarding the levee system. The levees we live and work around daily, but take for granted. If some of these levees were to blow, it would wipe out hundreds of thousands of homes, & dozens of small towns. Dump trucks hauling rock and sand 24/7 reinforcing the levees. Just makes everyone feel a little bit vunerable.
They're supposed to blow a levee near Cairo Ill today about 1:00 PM. Designed as the New Madrid Floodway, just for a high water event such as this. I hope they know what they're doing.
