How "long" someone has been riding is immaterial....it's how many MILES you have ridden that counts.  My riding period began in the 60s but had a hiatus when I was overseas and then when I lived in big snow country.  My mileage is:
65 Suzuki - 3000
68 BSA = 4000
71 Honda = 14000
2001 Kaw = 45000
2005 Kaw - 56000
2008 Harley = 46000
1996 Harley = 6000

1 dog on the BSA (mild road rash)
1 down on the BSA in rain (ditto)
1 parking lot down on Kaw (skin burn on pipes)
1 ditch run on 2nd Kaw (no injury)

Hit a deer on I-81 but didn't go down and bike not damaged....ABS stopped her perfectly straight (with the wife all over my back), hit the deer about 5 mph...deer was stock still at that moment.
T

Good point on number of miles....

44 now.... been riding since I was 19 (on the street)

Rear ended once that sent me down on my GSXR-750.... subsequently almost run over by surrounding traffic.... made for a really bad commute to work. Rode this bike for 50K

1979 Shovel... 45K and about deaf in my right ear... thanks to the drag pipes.....

Laid my Fatboy down on the freeway (again, in traffic) 65K when I sold it

Nothing since (knock on wood)

24K on the 08 FLHX (Though I did get hit from behind by another bike and was able to stay upright.... )

26K currently on the FLTRSE3

so 210K of riding.... not bad...

How Long? 40 years.

How many times?
On the street, 3 times.

1. High speed headshake spit me off an XS-650 Yamaha that belonged to a co-worker at 90 MPH. A few bruises and that was it. I was wearing leather and 17 years old.

2. Got struck from behind by an XS11 with a big ol' Windjammer fairing on it, 70 MPH. I got nasty road rash (wearing a wife beater, shorts, & flip-flops, so it was my fault, but I was 19 and about 1/2 drunk. It was my birthday).

3. Six years ago I was in a low speed altercation with the ass-end of an SUV and damned near ripped my left leg right off. That one nearly killed me. 30 days in the trauma center having that leg re-attached and one of the members of this forum (FR8TRN) was at that hospital almost every day. I was 206 lbs when I got hurt and when they sent me home I weighed 146 lbs. As soon as they let me get up, I rode the bike to the gym and physical therapy every day with a crutch strapped on it, and later a telescoping cane across the handlebars. People thought I was bat-sh!t-crazy riding the bike when I couldn't walk. Totally against the advice of ALL my doctors. The only one who understood was my wife. "Riding isn't something he does, it's WHO HE IS".

Riding since 1969...
Two actual crashes. First was '69 in Melbourne Florida. Was a newbie with the Indiatlantic FD.
Riding home one afternoon the truck passed, going the other way...I turned and followed.
Down a side road at ~25mph the rear of the truck went up and then down HARD. I figured, speed bump...NOT. End of the road=SAND. Stood up for the bump...I made it 20 feet and went down. Not hurt and only bent the pegs back. The guys on the back of the truck almost fell off laughing...the truck did not even slow down.
FOLLOWING TOO CLOSE.
Second was this past October. A fundraiser ride. Bike ahead slowed to a near stop on a North Georgia curve and I straightened up to stop...she took off and I cracked the throttle but was now out of road aimed at the apex and went off the curve. Tried to ride it to a stop but a large rock turned the wheel full left and...I went thru the windshield. 10-12 stitches, sprained both ankles, bruises in odd places but walked away. The bike required near $11K to repair.
FTC, likely so...I hate riding in groups and intended to drop by, leave some cash and ride home. Someone said "start 'em up" like a lemming I went along.

Oh well. Life Goes On...or not.

Been riding for 45 years this june and been down hard only one time in this period. In Aug of 1976 I totaled my 1972 Sportster when a Chev Surbaban blew a stop sign in my path at Armstead and Grand Ave, in Glendora. To this day every detail of that accident replays through my mind. Had I not been a young buck with many enduro races under my belt I wouldn't be here today. Basicaly, in split second reflex I managed to get the Sporty crossed up where I could let go, the bike lodged under the Suberban, puncturing its oil pan and destroying my bike, I rolled off at a 45 degree angle away from the Suberban, over a curb and into ivy patch... I was not wearing a helmet and other then a change of underwear i was fine. Two months later, after insurance payoff I bought a 1976 Honda Goldwing  :nixweiss: :nixweiss: hey I was young and dumb, but I did enjoy that Wing for many years.

I think this should go to -how many times have you droped your bike- ?? I don't have enough fingers to count the times I have  :P

Been riding roads for five years and only down once in So Ca. Front end washed out on some gravel in a corner and only scuffed one helmet and a leather coat. A mani a cage tried to kill me one day on the So Ca. freeway after he cut me off and I gave him the bird. Not smart on my part cause that is when the attack started. I hit the brakes Top Gun style and exited the freeway.

I am 44 now, like many others I have been riding dirt basically my whole life. When I started riding street, a lot of my buddies didn't understand why I always wanted to wear a full face helmet. I would always tell them, I have sampled more soil then I can remember, still walking. As for the street, knock on wood, no asphalt samples to date!!
