Round one :  Today UPS called me on my cell and said they wanted to pick the tour pack up and ship it to another location for inspection.  I laughed and told the guy you have to be kidding me, you guys will destroy it if you touch it again.  He explained he was just a driver and that was his job.

I explained to him it was to valuable even in it's present condition to let it in their hands and they can see it at my place.  He informed me he would contact a customer service rep and they would be getting in touch with me but it may take some time.

I told him no problem, I have the box, the packing, the time  and the item for them in my garage, so now the waiting game begins.

Cannot wait till round two:

Did you happen to take pictures of the box prior to unpacking?  I've done that before when the UPS guy left a damaged box and blew away without even ringing the doorbell (funny how every time I test my doorbell it works just fine, but the UPS guys can never seem to make it work).  Forwarded digital images of the crushed box, then images of the box opened but the stuff still in it, then final images of the stuff by itself showing the damage in detail.  Absolutely no argument and the claim was handled promptly.

It's a shame that UPS has gotten to the point of actually being worse than the USPS when it comes to handling packages.  I get stuff delivered by USPS quite often, and never have a problem.  UPS, on the other hand, seems to beat stuff up as a matter of course these days.  All that running around, hurry, hurry, hurry, drive like a bat out of hell, etc. must also apply to the sorting facilities.  UPS is my last choice these days if I have a choice.

Good luck with UPS - Good luck with this kind of money. They are horrible with claims, unless you're talking about a few buck. I had a large flat screen console shipped via UPS freight. The box looked fine, and they delivered it inside the door. I opened the box and did a quick inspsction, but the thing was wrapped a million ways, soeverything looked good and he left.

When I got it all unwrapped, and out of the box, the the thing was seriously messed up. All of the verticle support boards were spilt. It was as as if when it was on a side, some Yahoo on a fork lift bashed it into another skid, so only the skid took the impact, but the momentum destroyed the cabinet without much of a mark on the box.

I went throught 3 months of hell. they wanted inspectors to come and take it. I said nope, come on by and see. we went round in circles and they finally claimed the mfr put the damaged cabinet in a box to conceal the damage, as if that's some kind of brilliant business plan.

I told them to phuck off and I'll just see them in small claims court. If they want to play games over the $2,000 cabinet, fine, but it really sucks. I won't trust them again for anything somewhat fragile.

Claims where the exterior of the shipping container is obviously damaged are fairly easy, but the ones like this where the container looks great but the stuff inside is toast, are much tougher.  In most cases any shipping company, not just UPS (should be spelled OOPS btw), will tell you that the problem is with the internal packaging and refer you to the shipper.  As we all know, that is unlikely with a large company that ships large numbers of those products all the time.  They would go out of business rather quickly if their packaging was so poor the product could be destroyed with nary a trace of damage to the container.

One of the ways UPS has used the entire damage issue to make more money is by offering to pack your shipment for you, for a rather sizeable fee of course.  I remember a recent visit to the local UPS store to return a POS external hard drive to WD, using the same packaging (internal and external) that WD had used to send me the replacement POS.  I got the dire warnings about damage not being covered if they determined my packaging wasn't up to snuff, and the offer to package it for about double the original shipping fee.  I told the young lady I liked to live dangerously, so I'd just pass on her splendid offer.  It's getting to be ridiculous anymore, like all the people running all these companies went to the same school where they were taught how to take advantage of the dumb customers in as many dubious and devious ways as possible.  I know Harley management attended and aced the course, and it looks like UPS was right there with them.  These days, good luck dealing with any of the companies being run by the "greed is good" generation.

So far I have had no issues with Fed Ex, and surprisingly the only issue with the USPS was one of timeliness, not damage.  And if my memory hasn't failed completely, recent testing by Consumer Reports using instrumented packages indicated that the USPS handled packages more gently than either UPS or Fed Ex.  Go figure.

I have been through this before when I lived in Ohio, bought a chopped tour pack out of Florida, it arrived with tire marks on the box.  The UPS rep at first tried the old packaging routine but after about 3 weeks of my being up his a$$ they paid.  Money goes to shipper then the shipper has to reimburse the buyer.  This one appears to have been chucked from the airplane that transported it from Illinois to Nashville and landed on the edge of the box. Crack aligns perfect with box damage and it was wrapped in an original tourpack HD wrap, covered in bubble wrap and then surrounded by packing peanuts, nor problem with packing.

Now I know why Corbin packs their product using injected foam molding. There are times that bubble wrap, peanuts and paper just don't cut it. Somewhere between UPS and the shop that packed it, you are owed the money to buy a new Tour Pak. Good luck.

Well still no response from UPS, they have turned it over to an independent company for review.  They informed me they will contact Volski and let him know their final decision.  No word from Jason yet so I am figuring either they have not contacted him or they blame it on his packaging and he doesn't want to give me the bad news.

Think I'll rip off the UPS truck when it shows up at my place Tuesday and sell it to Dale Jarrett.

Called UPS today the guy I need to speak to is out of town.  Called Jason and he hasn't hear anything either.

Looks like the old UPS shuffle being played at theis time.  What they don't know is I have all the time in the world toplay their game as long as I win.

Will keep you posted if UPS gets a customer service department.   :huepfenlol2:

I think I will go ahead and mount the cracked one just to see waht it looks like, I am getting older by the day and sure would like to see how it looks before I can't remember where I keep my bike.

What do you think, maybe once it is on the bike UPS will react and pay something or am I risking them saying it is useable so screw you.

Chains,

In my experience I would NOT mount it.    I would want everything as pristine as it could be, as well as would not want to risk any other damage in the off chance that murphy's law is following you too closely.   I think your wait and see approach is a much better tactic to take at this juncture in the game.

Patience is a virtue just not one I have much of.
