Need help!
« on: May 15, 2011, 05:08:47 PM »

Greetings all from Texas!  I am making the tour pak on my CUSE2 detachable.  As part of that process, I want eliminate the stock amp mounted under the tour pak and install the new J&M 250 watt amp and 7.25" speakers in the front fairing.  I don't care about the rear speakers working - I just want front speakers that ROCK!

Here is the problem...I bought these parts for my dealer to install as part of detaching the tour pak, and they now tell me it is not possible to install the J&M system because the stock amp cannot be "taken out of the loop".  They say the HK radio will not work at all unless the stock amp is hooked up.

This is totally contrary to everything I have been reading in other posts on this topic!  I don't want to return my J&M system!  I just want to make sure I am understanding what some of you have done with your radio's before I visit the dealer again.  My understanding is that some of you have definitely eliminated the stock amp and have very nice and loud systems using Hawg Wired, J&M, Hog Tunes, etc., while others seemed to have opted to install the stock amp in the saddlebag to save a few $$.  Am I understanding this correctly?   Sorry for the long winded post, but this has been going on for over a week now, and I need to get to the bottom of it!   Thanks!

BTW - if I had it to do over again, I would buy Hawg Wired from HD Dude!

Perhaps someone will post the link to hd-dude's "how to" thread; otherwise, send him a PM/email and ask him for it.
The thread is for a Hawg-wired 4-channel amp installation so it's slightly different from what you're planning.

All that is required is for the HK front speaker wiring to be disconnected from the amp's harness (I don't recall if this is done inside the fairing or at the rear of the bike at the amp) and the amp's output going to the front speakers to be disconnected at the front speakers.  You're then free to use the HK's front speaker outputs as the amp's inputs, and connect the amp's outputs to the speakers.

There are other threads on this as well as hd-dude's.

Now, getting a dealer's service department to do something it apparently doesn't want or know how to do is another issue.

Assuming you have an 07 (as in your avatar) the removal of the amp is really easy, all plug and play. There is an overlay harness installed on you bike that needs to be removed. If you have a 2010 or later the overlay harness has been partially integrated into the bike and the install can be done but is more difficult as there are some cutting and soldering that needs to be done as part of the install.

Look here at this link of several threads on how to do it:
