Apparently, I don't know jack
« on: May 18, 2011, 12:57:08 AM »

But then we all knew that already.  I just learned something about my yellow Sears jack tonight.  Whenever I jack up my 09 SEUC, the front wheel always raises way up in the air (like a foot) before the rear tire starts to lift off the floor.  I'll assume that this is going to be the same for all 09-up touring models.  Tonight, I decided to try moving the jack back further and not lifting from the even frame rails on each side.  At the rear of the frame rails, the elbow is much larger, and I stuck the rear of the jack under those elbows, and the front of the jack on the frame rail as usual.  Lo and behold, the rear tire raised up first, leaving the front tire still touching the floor, and I finally have a stable bike to clean the rear wheel.  Maybe everyone else already knew this and I was the only one that wasn't on the conference call that told everybody else how to do this...but just in case anyone else out there didn't know how well this works...

Good to know Dave. If I ever clean my bike I'll have to remember that trick!

I take off the saddle bags before I start jacking (now that just don't sound right  :huepfenlol2:) this allows me to move the jack just inside of those elbows.  :2vrolijk_21:

Makes it much easier to clean the rear wheel as well.  Not that I would know.   :2vrolijk_21:
