how to tell a real blue flame frx3?
« on: May 20, 2011, 12:30:15 AM »

can one tell a real blue flame fxr3 by the serial number?  I am going to look at one tomorrow and wonder if there is any way to tell if it is the real deal?  It is the one listed on this site by Pasagshak.  I am hoping for the best and very glad to find one so close to home.

Thanks

I've seen that one on Craigslist. He's came down a bit, but still $2k more than I paid for mine and over double the miles. I'm about a half hour from him. If you need any info on the blue flame FXR, let me know. It'd be pretty hard to fudge one of these and buying the tins is next to impossible. Not to mention all the other parts needed to make a clone. Wouldn't be cost effective. Let me know if you have any questions. Jon

According to the "registry" list of Blue 3's out there, it seems the last six digits of the vin should fall between 951520's and 951810's.

Thanks for all the help.  I did not connect with the fellow last Friday and am now going to meet him on Wednesday afternoon.  This is going to be tough.  There is a green one with low milage in Bend that I could also look at this weekend if I pass on the Blue.  He is asking $10,300 only 5,800 miles.  Does anyone know about the supersition Harley riders have about green bikes?

I rode a green knuckle for many years.  Don't worry 'bout the superstition (just don't ever change a green bike's color & you'll be fine).  ??? har.  :drink: spyder

That bike, in Bend, has been for sale for quite a few months. He was asking almost $14k in Feb, when I bought mine. Looked great in the pics, but was too rich for my blood. He's came down a bunch, and it looks like a good bike for the money. Your lucky your in Oregon, WA wanted to charge me tax on fair market value of over $12k, and luckily NADA was in the mid $7k's. Saved me half the money in taxes. Also, when I went to insure it, my insurance guy told me the bike is valued at more than my 08 FLHRC...... WTF? Granted, it did cost almost the exact same, back in 99, as my Road King did in 2008.

The green one is a great buy for 10300. They made 620 in green and only 64 blue. If you can get the blue you would be ahead just for collecting. Both bikes are great rides. I managed to pick up my blue one on ebay three years ago for 10k and only 6k miles on it. But I would not turn down a green one. Good luck

I would say, buy the one you like, not make the decision on which may be more collectable.

Seldom are bikes good investments. It certainly was not for the the first owners of "blues".

Tend to agree.....value might still be there if you didn't put any/few miles on it......and someone else wanted to buy it.......

Could never understand buying a FXR and paying top dollar, and not riding it because the value will go down......me thinks there are better investments around........ 8)

Made a deal with the blue flame bike at $9,500 and going to pick it up Saturday! It won't be an investment that is for sure! Definately for riding! I will try and get some pictures posted after I get it home.  Now if it would just stop raining in Oregon!  Have a ride planned for Sunday, will most likely ride the FXRS and learn the new bike close to home when the rain stops. :)
