Might have started down the wrong path?
« on: May 29, 2011, 10:55:57 AM »

I have a 2011 SESG. The day I traded in my Honda and bought it, I asked them to crank it up since I had never heard the Screaming Eagle CVO running. The salesman told me how great it sounded. After cranking it, I looked at him like he was stupid. I had to have something put on it that day (I know I should have waited) so the only thing in stock at the dealer was a true dual head pipe (no cats) and a set of Klockwerx slip-ons. I went this route with the SE super tuner. After 1000 miles I got it tuned and ended up with 85hp and 98ft/lbs. Is this normal? Seat of the pants it feels alright, but when riding next to other riders with much smaller motors, they can keep up and in some cases beat me (BADLY) in a drag. Not that I need the fastest bike in town, but a screaming eagle should be just that...
My tuner/mechanic recommended a cam. He said just changing the cam with what i already have should put me around 100hp, and 110tq. Is this right? First Harley and don't want to do upgrades more than once if possible. I wanted the D&D fat cat when I bought the bike and should have just waited....

Check with Steve George @ Fullsac.com. He has dyno charts on his website and is a wealth of knowledge and doesn't mind sharing.

What type of dyno was the dyno run done on and was the motor at operating temperature when they did your dyno runs for the wot runs?

Typically on a dynojet dyno the numbers seen on the 110 stock with just air cleaner, pipes, mufflers and tune are typically around 110 torque and 90 hp give or take a little for the types of pipe/mufflers, temps of the day, etc.

If this was done on a dynojet your horsepower is in line, the torque seems down a bit, but again that could be your combination or tune.

Cheapest peace of mind might be to run your bike on another dyno for the 35-50 bucks and see what you get might just be a stingy dyno.

Ride it and enjoy it! Don't worry about 300lb. motorcycles with 120 hp... or whatever they have. Different riding styles and generally speaking, most of us don't give a rip about that insanity of who can get to triple digits first. Lots of trucks are faster than the big turbo oil burners, but I don't hear many Ford F-350's saying they wish they could keep up with latest offerings from Porshe, even thou they do have a larger motor!!! After riding it this season, then make some choices after u know enough about it, and what u like or don't like about it.

Usually, the FIRST thing a Harley owner does is change the pipes, good, bad or otherwise. Don't feel bad.
We see this all the time.
100/110??
Install a Wood 555, and set the compression at 10.4 cr.
You'll have all of that, and more. :)

NB,  you got in a hurry, whe have all done that at one time or another, you have already spent a bunch but IMHO the best fix would have been the Fullsac X Pipe, 1.75 or 2in baffle cores, Big Sucker Air Kit and TTS Master tune, You cant make a Kentucky Derby Winner out of a Clydesdale get it running well and forget it.

What I'm not clear about is exactly what kind of bikes are giving you a spanking?  If it is a stock 883 with a passenger I wold be concerned as well. If it is a lighter sports bike with a racing heritage, follow the advice given, forget about it.  You can have a fast Harley but it won't be the fastest bike dollar for dollar.

Old Maudie is just that, the last spring she was down here she had to go home and get retro fitted, still aint seen her tailights till he Otis'd me this last visit.  We're just hoping Randy is gonna get on that stock 95" tour glide of his and come play, but we all can dream  :huepfenlol2:   :huepfenlol2:

I sure hope to get off the porch by then, Unbalanced.  But, my getting off the porch will never mean I'll be able to run with you big dogs.....have you ever mentioned what you've already done to that purty green machine in the 'go-fast' dept.?  Of course, I realize it'll always be 'stock' like Randy's .....just wondering.   :nixweiss:  har.  :drink:  spyder

Spyd,

As far as the motor goes, so far only the pipes, mufflers and tune have been messed with, at least for the near term.   I want to put a 120r in there and have it spec'd out, but have some household projects that need to be finished first.

Spyd,

Has nothing to do with messing with the Northern Yankee Chapter of West Virginia, its more like I have just gotten used to having the power when i want to call on it.   Feels like I am riding a moped at times in comparison.

I am thinking about making it up there for MV, although not sure I can swing it yet, as it is end of the quarter.

Spyd, you gotta stop picking on Carl, it's not fair that you bust on Maudie for being in a trailer, its the only way to ensure she makes it.   Each visit down here she seems to end up at the doctors office for something or another haha.  A good shot of penicilin and she is on her way again ahaha, besides Carl would be hard to live with if he broke down in the middle of nowhere without the Featherlight and his Toyota.

Let's see if this gets his attention haha. :huepfenlol2:   :huepfenlol2:
