This is from the National HOG Web site:

"For shipping information, rates, timetables, and other services available, call Federal Motorcycle Transport at 866-848-5089 (toll free within U.S.) or log on to www.funtransport.com. If calling from outside of the U.S.: 309-694-4500, ext. 217. Fax: 309-282-0438. Be sure to mention that you're a H.O.G. member, and their friendly, helpful agents will provide you with the special discounted rates designed especially for full and full life members of the Harley Owners Group."

The problem with shipping is the time it takes for your bike to get to its destination.  If you have another bike at home to ride in the meantime, it wouldn't be so bad, but if you don't, that would not be good.

I haven't seen low prices on bikes in our area except for what the dealers are offering for trades. Someone told me his cousin bought a lightly used 1200 Sportster for $5000 and a few weeks later decided to trade up to a used Heritage for more comfort. The dealer offered him $3500... I've been watching ebay for a friend that wants a used Ultra Classic. Some of the "buy it now" listings look good but nobody's bidding on them.

Sales tax here is 8.75%. That's $1,750 on a $20k used CVO. I'll ship mine.

Sales tax here capped at 3% on new.
And if you trade in you pay the difference between trade in allowance and whatever your buying.

The more I see, the more this may not make any sense.

may only make sense if you want the bike to keep.

Way to many variables to make me comfortable with the idea. I have found it easier to buy than sell in general.

Worst case is the bike has unidentified problems that show up on an out of state or country ride. :nervous: Rental bikes have companies behind them and you know your own bike.

With the inventory of used bikes being so high and the prices so low, has anyone just bought a bike where they wanted to travel?

it seems that you could buy a bike run it a few weeks and sell it for about the rental cost and would have a better ride.

I know this may sound crazy, but this would give me a reason to say...........go to CA.

Have thought about doing this for a Eastern Europe road trip. 4-5 weeks of riding around, starting /ending in south London.
