Progressive monotube question
« on: June 25, 2011, 08:32:19 PM »

I have the progressive lowered monotubes I bought to go in my bike but think I will leave it standard height. The directions say to use both springs for 2 in and 1 spring for 1 inch drop.If I leave both springs out will that leave it standard height? Thanks

Just to let everyone know.I spoke to a Tech at progressive and he said the lowered monotube will be at least 1 inch lower so cant go back to stock height.

Can you exchange them?  Going to standard height is always a better idea, IMO.

Just make sure you change the rear as well...better to be taller in front compared to rear rather than the other way around.

Yeah I got the 300 MM Bitubos for rear.I got them mounted now I have to adjust them cause right now they are pounding my a-- as hard as the lowering air shocks I have.If I dont get them a lot better they will be going back. Sucks to buy things that are supposed to be so good and the arent.I will keep adjusting and hope they workougt.

Nope, you will be one inch lower in the front than a street glide.

I spent a month making sure with Dealers and with Progressive, the street glide, the cvo street glide and the 09 cvo road glide all have a stock height front end.

The 09 cvo road glide and street glide have the same height front.  I put the stock height mono tubes in mine and it was 1/8 higher than stock.  After 3000 miles the same as stock.  Bike had 30,000 miles on it when I added the mono tubes

On the Bitubos...be sure you've got the sag adjusted right, which is done with the spring preload.  It generally takes a lot more than you think.  Put the rebound adjustment on about setting 3 of 5, then start with the compression adjustment on 7 or 8 clicks.  The compression adjustment is non linear 'cause it's a needle valve, so each click above 8 or so gives more compression damping than each click from 1-8.  Hope that makes sense.  There's several people who have the 300mm...103Thunder is one of them, I think.  You might PM him and he can give you some initial settings, but my bet is that you're bottoming out because the spring preload is not set right.  Once you get them dialed in, there's nothing better, but it takes a little tweaking to get 'em right.  Then you'll probably find that you have settings for unloaded and another setting for loaded down with gear.  It took some adjusting to get the 330mm set right on the '06 SEVROD I used to own, but once they were right, it actually rode better than my '06 SEUC with the Legend Air rear shocks.  The Legends work best when they are loaded up with two people and gear.
