Hi

Just installed the Boom Audio Ipod interface on my FLHTCUSE4.

Went well enough apart from the fact that the Ipod doesn't come up on the radio as an option (so no evidence I've installed the kit) - don't know what I've done wrong or if I've got a dud unit.

The connections into the 35 pin connector on the back of the radio where:

#8 tan/red
#19 violet/gray
#31 tan/blue
#4 red/blue
#27 black/blue

I've heard some say the install instructions have been wrong in the past.

Checked the front of the 35 pin connector and I can see all the wire ends.

Plugged and unplugged a few times.

If I need to take the wires I've put into the 35 pin connector out, what do I do?

Anybody got any ideas - my dealer is 200 miles away.

Don't have an answer for you, but you may want to contact the member who started this thread and seemed to have a similar problem which he solved:

http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=63992.0

The thread includes a link to the correct instruction sheet and confirms that your wire assignments are correct.

Go to this link; scroll down to "Instruction Sheets"; and click on the link shown for information on how to insert and remove wires from the 35 wire connector:

http://www.te.com/catalog/pn/en/776164-1?RQPN=776164-1

Check the yellow/orange and yellow/violet wires at the iPod connector and 6A connector.  Those are the CAN + and - wires that "tell" the HK head unit that the iPod module is connected.

Problem fixed, one of the wires was not fully in the 35 pin connector - even though I checked you need to make sure it's right in.

Congrats on solving your problem.  Do you recall which wire was not seating fully?  Might help someone who has a similar problem if the particular wire is identified.

Inserting wires into that 35 wire connector is not easy; there just isn't much room for adult fingers trying to insert a single wire.

It was tan and blue I think in plug #31, but the hardest one to get in is #19

Went on a fairly long ride c.650 miles in torrential rain and a little problemette has arisen.

The radio says ipod does respond and none of the hand or radio controls work for the ipod apart from the volume, however, if you use the wheel on the ipod you can choose and play music.

I'm guessing (hoping) that on of the wires into the 35 pin connector has pulled out slightly - any ideas which one?

If not, any other ideas?

Thanks Chaps

Well I had originally planned to ask if you had updated the radio software but since it worked (until the rain storm? Maybe I should re-read) then probably not the issue. This will be one of my first mods but also hoping that someone will be able to get music integration from the 660 GPS direct into the radio. Using a jumper is ok I guess but like most here, I don't want no stinkin' wires. Why have a GPS with MP3 capabilty and gludgy usage.

Subscribed and I'm pullin' for ya man.

Found this NIM thread right after I left yours. Prob won't do anything for your iPod concerns though. Back to reading and there's a ton of good info that Jim has. I'm diggin' on the minds of all the tron heads. Next will be HAM radio.

Thanks Carl

Do you have any more pages of that manual i.e. 7.13 and the next test page(s) for the Ipod circuit?

Jon, I don't have any more pages.  I photocopied my dealer's books to post the wiring diagrams and information in the thread referenced previously.

No joy, took Batwing off, checked all the connections with a magnifying glass, tried to reseat everything.  Ipod plays but is not recognised - just says it's trying to synch and then it shows as not connected although if you use the ipod controls it plays fine.

Looks like dealer time.

Jon,

Can I assume that when you say you can use the iPod controls it plays fine, you have the iPod hooked up to the interface harness cable plug as one would expect?

When I have any of my iPods hooked up to the interface cable connector as it is used, none of my iPod controls will do anything to the iPod.  The Boom Interface has taken control of the iPod and all I can do manually from the iPod to stop it is to unplug it.

Sometimes when I first get started the iPod is not recognized.  All I do is scroll with the right mode button through the WB, AM, FM etc back to the iPod and then it connects and sync's everytime.

If yours is not doing this, it has to be something with the control wiring and not the audio output wiring of the interface.

I'm sorry I cannot help further than that, but you have had some very knowledgeable guys helping so far and it may come down to a bad interface itself.

When I installed my iPod Interface module all that was wrong on mine was that it was an early one and the sound was not as good as when plugged into the front AUX socket.  I eventually found out that the 19 and 31 wires were incorrectly marked on the instructions, which the Sept instructions quickly corrected.  Once I changed them the sound was very "stereo" and not muted.

Good luck and let us know what you eventually find as the problem.
