Lets hear about your exhaust upgrades
« on: July 02, 2011, 12:04:30 PM »

Hi CVO Owners,

Bought my 2011 CVO Ultra Classic back in January and I have to say it is by far the best bike I have ever owned BUT even though the Screaming Eagle exhaust that came stock with the bike looks great, the pipes are not giving me the "here comes daddy sound" I would like.  I would like to hear from those who have upgraded your exhaust, such as manufacturer, type and how they sound.  Pictures of how they look on the bike would be great.

Happy July 4th!

Nice looking bike.  Brazillion options and/or opinions on exhaust.  If you like the look of the stock pipes, take a look at the Fullsac X Pipe with the 2" Fullsac cores for the stock muffs with a TTS tuner.  Easy install and sounds good while not being too loud.  It's also about the least expensive option.  There's a bunch of folks here running that system.

I got my 2011 SE ULTRA CLASSIC in january & have since change the exhaust. Go with Fulsac X pipe & 2" baffles. You won't be dissapointed. Call Steve @ Fulsac. Tell them you belong to this CVO website & they will give 10% discount. They are great people to deal with. I have a Screamin Eagle race tuner installed so this is what I used to retune it. Steve also sells a tuner. You will have to make that decision on what 1 you want to use. The GM @ the HD dealer likes the Fulsac sound & looks of  the stock mufflers better than his expensive Rineheart header & mufflers. My SE Ultra Dyno was as good as his. Rineheart versus Fulsac, go with Fulsac. You will get all the perfomance at a lesser price.

Bought and installed cat-less headpipe from forum member, added 2.25" Fullsac baffles to OEM mufflers. Power Commander V along with Arlen Ness Big Sucker. Runs great, sounds great, louder but not so loud that you can't hear the XM radio. Still looks stock...heres a pic. Close to Pier Park Panama City Beach during 2011 Thunder Beach Rally.

As stated above, Fullsac product is as advertised. Install it and you'll think you're on a different bike.
Safe holiday,

While I'm not a Fulsac disciple, it is one option to go.  I have the Vance and Hines Power Duals and 4" Basic Rounds on my SE Street Glide, and it runs and sounds great.  It's a barker when you want it to bark but has a nice rumble at cruising speeds.   On my SE Road Glide Ultra, I had the CAT removed from the stock headers and replaced the stock cans with Klockwerks Revolvers.  The Revolvers are quieter on the Ultra than the V&H Basics are on the SG, but I prefer it that way on the Ultra as that's the bike Momma and I take when riding.  The Revolvers sound really nice and have a nice, but quieter rumble at highway cruising speeds.  I use the SESPT on both bikes for a tuner.  Very happy with the seat of the butt dyno performance and sounds/looks on both bikes.

One Sharp Road King,
I have been told that on the Tourers the Cats are just a metal gauze like a steel wool sort of a composition.  Can you find out, or do you know, cuz if that is true I am thinking mufflers off and a SEWER SNAKE on a power drill might eat it out going up each pipe...

Since I like the clean lines of the stock headers, for the clean lines, I am wondering if they can be snaked out instead of the larger job of mark, cut, and shut with TIG...  A snake would be a novel approach for the engineering.. if possible..

Thanks in advance for your judgement on it...

And to all my American Friends, THEY FOUND BIG BLUE, and it was shipped on June 28... I think they conveniently "LOST" it until they got a full container load.  I will finally see it about mid to late August... :nixweiss:  But if there is something cool like a 120 engine in the 2012 Models, I will have the option of getting that and start the waiting game all over again until December...  :confused5:  You all are tired of hearing about it, so I won't tell you the outcome... Heh he..

Cowboy, There have been some others on the site that have posted pics and details of "cat-removal". If memory serves they used a big round drill bit, like for cutting holes in wood but it was actually for concrete. With this process you don't get "all" of the cat material out, it just makes an opening. I guess thats better than nothing but I think a new header or older cat-less pipe would be more efficient. I still have my old head pipe and it is very heavy and the cat is way up inside. I'm not sayin you idea won't work, it's a question of how long it would take you to get it out. I would not hold my breath for a 120" to be in a 2012 CVO. I would accept and ride "Big Blue" like you stole it. Then if the 2012 colors jerk your chain, you can start the sell "Big Blue" process and wait for the 2012. I hope and dream for some new colors and graphics on this years CVO's especially the SEUC's from the MOCO, but I don't expect anything new or exciting. But I'm not looking to sell or trade my 09' anyway. Congrats on Big Blue being on it's way to your excited little heart. I was at about your same point in time last year...do I find and buy an 09 in the color that I really, really, really love or do I wait on the 2010's. I did look at a just out of the crate 2010 Gray/Blue at my local stealer, but turned it down. It was pretty but just didn't jerk my chain tight enough. Later Arland

I have been using the D&D FatCat on my last few bikes including this one.
But I must say, i would like something just a little quieter when my ole lady is with me.
Not sure how I'm gonna deal with that.
Was going to purchase quite baffle till several people told me it is very loud also.
I love the low to mid it provides so I do not know what to do.
I do recommend it if the noise is no issue as it performs great.

Cowboy...you could remove the cats from the '09 models with the core drill because the cat was in the muffler.  On your new bike, the cat is in the collector...the way it's designed, I doubt seriously if you could "snake' it out of there, and come close to complete removal, and I'd be concerned with bits and pieces of it left in there.  Cut and weld if you want to use the stock headpipe, or get something like the Fullsac X-Pipe header and be done with it.  Don't know how feasible getting Fullsac products is in Australia, but for a simple, easily installed, and fully functional system, I don't think you can beat it.  And you sure as hell can't be the price, at least not in the US.
