    • CVO1: FLHXSE2 . . . . . Fullsac X-Pipe - 2.25" baffles - Fueling 574 Cam's - TTS Tuner - 30 Tooth Pully W/Stock Belt- Wild One 575 Bars - Chrome Inner Primary - Kuryakyn Plate frame 9182 - Diamond Engineering Polished SS Bolt Kit - 8" Windvest - Black Agitator

Man my bike runs hot. Hot enough that the people behind me comment on the smell. It doesn't smell like oil, or plastic, it just smells HOT!! It was hot this weekend, mid 80's to mid 90's, riding through the hills and at elevation, bike was over 275 all day. Had a long final leg to the ride, when I stopped, I now have an oil leak. looks like my transmission shaft seal on my inner primary is leaking. I am just wondering if this is a factor of the heat? Talked to Steve at Fullsac about my high oil temp's a while back, he says its normal. Just seems to hot to me... This is with an oil dip stick temp gauge.

Is everybody else running this hot? I have an x-pipe, 2.25" baffles, and Steve's tune, oh, and a 30 tooth front pulley.

bike runs pretty good, but not as strong in the hills loaded down as I thought it would be. My buddy has a bone stock 2006 RG with only slip on mufflers, not even a stage one air cleaner. I probably out weighed him by 200 lbs with my passenger etc (he was solo and smaller than me). I couldn't pull him on the long hills. Now we didn't race a bunch of times, and I wasn't beating the hell out of my bike, but over Monitor pass he was behind me and I really couldn't shake him.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Time for some cam's for sure.....

I run between 220 and 250. If I'm idling in traffic, it'll run upto 280-290. With any air movement past the engine it rarely runs hotter than 240.

I believe the lowers are adjustable for air flow, make sure they are opened as far as they can go.

logically if the lowers are closed more air when moving would be directed to the engine. with lowers open more air is going to your legs to cool them off and by passing the motor. imho

Opening the lower vents will definitely lower the engine temps. I've watched the engine temp gauge on my PV lower after the vents were opened.

On Saturday, my wife and I sat in stop and go traffic for 2 miles in 85 º heat.  Stopped for gas just after the traffic jam and checked the oil temp.  I was surprised it was only 220º I was expecting in the 270-280 range.  I run Redline so maybe that helps, but who knows.

I run 195-210 depending on traffic,  but i would contact the tuner and review whats happening,  That should be the first step

He rides like JCZ......he's goin for the JCZ build.....you can still expect the temps to stay up there if it's hot out.  Big difference if you're running 80 mph on a regular basis (like we do here in Nor Cal) and 70 mph, as far as the engine temps go. :2vrolijk_21:   And I ride with leg fairings year round.....even when it's 110F out.

Having said that......my bike only made it to about 250F for a short while this past weekend and that was on I-5 in the valley cranking about 85 mph for a ways there.  Soon as I slowed down to about 75 mph, the temps went back down to about 240F.

What everybody fails to mention, is what type of oil gauge are you using to measure your temps?

The HD dash gauge always reads ~30* cooler than the HD digital dipstick.

I have both gauges on my 2011 103" Street Glide (and have measured both gauges in boiling water prior to installation), and can tell you that the HD digital dipstick is far more accurate than the HD dash gauge.

People always comment how their bike "never gets over 230*." Well, if you're using the HD dash oil gauge as your reference, you're actually running at ~260*.
