it makes me wonder if H-D is headed for another downturn as they had in the mid 70's.

Been wondering that myself...crankshafts, lifters, rattles and clatter, valve guides, poor piston/cylinder fits, piston slap, throttle by wire, etc. etc. etc.

Then throw in the standard "Service Technician" lines of  "They all do that...,  It's normal..., They all sound like that...,   etc etc. etc."    :nixweiss:

The worriesome part is they don't seem to see or acknowledge what we see and experience...   Makes you wonder...

I think I stopped in last year.
Is this the dealership that they all speak French and sell snowmobiles?
Any "guarantees" should be backed up in writing.

There are several people at Big Moose who "vous parley francais" but no snowmobiles at the dealership. The Reyonold's Family owns as I mentioned a couple posts ago owns a blanket corp named Reyonold's Motorsports that sells just about every type of fun vehicle made by a dozen manufacturers. Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, everything BRP (Bombardier) makes, Arctic Cat and some others I can't think of off the top of my head. Calvin Reynolds that I mentioned as being a true Maine character has retired to the same airport neighborhood as John Travolta in Florida. Cal owns at last count 5 planes. At a very very robust late 70's he is enjoying the life of a retired mult-millionaire and you know, in spite of some of his antics over the years, I wish him well. As I said, my family bought a lot of merchandise from him. While he could be a hard nose SOB, he never let you walk away unless you were asking him to basically lose money on something. I recall once when I'd bought a brand new Honda 750F (1st one in Maine) something went wrong with it just before Laconia Weekend (yeah it was only like four days back then) Cal loaned me a very sweet used Honda 750 for the weekend. When the hell was the last time you ever heard of a motorcycle dealership doing a loaner? And a ton of other stories. When my Dad lost his leg from the knee down, RMS would come UPTA CAMP and pick up Dad's ATV if it needed work, And on and on. Stevie and yeah, I know him well enough to say Stevie was the coolest kid. About 10 years younger than me, he could ride the wheels off any motorcycle he put a leg over from the time he was baout 5 on. He grew up in the dealership and all of us long time customers always looked on him like a kid brother. So it's even more painful to see that he's not even remotely close to his Dad. He runs Big Moose on the WALMART model and if he loses an 40+ year customer like me, I guess he figures there's 10 new ones to replace me. Sorry, I'm off and running again. Just feels like losing a good friend after all these years.

Damned if you do........and........Damned if you don't.
I've seen a lot of 40,000 + mile (early)tensioners that looked good...........I've also seen the new hydraulic style tensioners that needed to be replaced at 25,000 miles.

I've seen a few make 40k.  I've seen many not make it.  I'm a firm believer in prevention vs. repairing damage.  Why take the chance...   :nixweiss:
