Amp gauge
« on: July 10, 2011, 08:02:55 AM »

I should have known it was to good to be true. Finally I rode several hundred miles with no problems, then looking at my amp gauge I noticed the indicator needle going between 13 and 14 amps. This does not happen all the time but most. I checked the gauge connections but that was no help. Whats next?

muddypaws, the volt gauge is not very accurate but at lower rpms or when the brake lights are on the volts could
drop a little. at cruising speed or 1800 rpms or higher it should stay over 14 volts. if not your stator and regulator
should be tested. sound like a grounded stator to me.  axil

Thanks, I'll get them tested. Might be a pain as it is an intermittent problem. I have no problem starting so it looks like the battery is charging.

sometimes a charging system will give you a few hints before thay fail completely so get it checked soon.    :2vrolijk_21:

The '06 SEUC's had a known issue with a batch of regulators.  Mine started acting up...at first, just minor voltage drops as you describe, but in a short time, the drops were more significant.  Replace the regulator and all was fine from that point forward.

If I shut the bike off for a few minutes and then start up it's O K for about two miles or so before it acts up. I'll get the new part Monday.

If you need a regulator, they may have to order it because it's the chrome version.

If I start the bike and sit in the garage with the motor up to 2300 RPM's why does the gauge read 14 volts and does not move around?
