Wow what a great trip and travelog. Thanks for sharing, I'm sure you would rather be resting and sleeping than posting.
Can't wait to see you to hear all about it. Sounds like a party at your house to show off the thousands of pictures you haven't posted. Perhaps during the cold winter months. It's time now to kick back and relax!

Thank God you both returned safe and sound.

God bless you both

Duke & Wanda

You sure you want to see all the photos, hope you have a week to do it  :huepfenlol2:

Mmmm...so you didn't see the pics and commentary of all the gravel, dirt roads they were riding on.

What a Great Trip! Glad I saw this before heading North on the Harleys'.

Yeah, I know about the roads.  Three of us did it last year on Harleys.  11,860 mi in 4 weeks, no problems.  We did do Top of the World Highway and there are the ever present escort trucks and fresh chip seal.  I am not knocking the choice of bike either way.  It is a great trip.  They did a fantastic job of documenting it and I very much enjoyed following along.  It brought back great memories.  Glad you all made it home safe and I hope you get to to the "haul road" trip in the not too distant future.  I don't think people get what an investment in time it is just to get to AK.  Anyway, thanks for the photos I really enjoyed them.

James

Now for the big question--- I'm sure I'm not the only one planning a trip to Alaska in the next year or two. Tell us about the roads.  Can I make it with my Road Glide? Can I stay on blacktop roads to Fairbanks and Anchorage? Are they in good condition?  How many miles of road construction was there?  What was the gravel conditions like on road construction?  Will I tip over?  Would you take your Harley up there?  Thanks in  advance for the answers.

The roads north of Prince George are under constant construction. There will be sections from 1/8 th of a mile up to 5 miles of loose gravel/ compacted gravel. There will be sections where there is two way traffic on these roads, along with trucks and many RVs. Those vehicles tend to kick up alot of rocks and DUST. If it is raining, as it was on our trip, there will be mud too. We saw many Harleys on these roads. Probably more Harleys than any other make of motorcycle :2vrolijk_21: So alot depends on your riding ability and if you can handle your bike getting totally trashed.

We ride an 09 CVO Ultra and there is no way that I would take it up to Alaska. Two up on a 950lb motorcycle in the mud on a bike that I have spent mucho bucks on just ain't gonna happen! But that is just me  ;D

Welcome back Chris and Anne. You two are ass kickers when it comes to having an adventure.

With Alaska over, what will I have to look forward to in the morning?

It's burned into your soul and will be with you forever. (You knew it would be.)

Does this mean really dusty and dirty----or does this mean dings, chips and broken stuff?

The ones I saw up in Alaska in 07, were trashed as far as I'm concerned, I rented one in Anchorage and toured from there. Wouldnt trash a CVO just for a trip. We met one guy who bought new in Texas and sold it when he arrived in Fairbanks, flew home and bought another new one.
