How much i$ it thi$ time?
« on: August 04, 2011, 01:01:28 PM »

Mon nite broke the drive belt on my SERK. Anyone know how many labor hours or a dollar value to do this job? This definitely exceeds my mechanical ability.

How much extra did the shop charge for that service?  And what did they actually do?

Repair should be around $675-$750.00 give or take a bit.    Belt is around 300 and 2011 book labor is 4.7 hours on a FL.

Had a tear in my SERK belt and had to replace.  Get ready to bend over...apparently to replace the belt requites the shop to disassemble the entire bike...don't recall cost, but I remember it was severe sticker shock.  Called another HD shop to get a price on this repair and they quoted about the same.  As with you, I didn't want to tackle something this involved.

"Entire bike" has to be their overstatement to scare you in to preparing for sticker shock.  Outer primary, back wheel and swingarm have to come off.  It's not a simple job.  But it's not nearly as bad as they apparently made it sound.

not sure on the extra....but the pulley's were pretty badly hacked up fron a nut still embedded in the belt....this was at an Indy shop (Arrow Cycle in Duncan, BC)so the cost was a bit better than at a dealer.

Try and change EVERY seal and gasket, even if  they look good. I had a dealer do my belt, and 300 miles later the seal started leaking. When I asked they said it looked good so they didn't change it.

FullSac Has a pulley kit thats will make the bike quicker. I would call them and get some info. Don't think it's too bad.
