Finally got around to updating to the new maps after I purchased a 16GB SD card. I followed the instructions that are listed in my OP from the Zumo Forums w/out any problems. Couple things that I found/noticed while doing this procedure were the following.
1. I found an image file (gmapbmap) that wasn't mentioned in the first post of the thread on the Zumo Forum but after reading the entire thread I found a post where someone else had noticed that file and the response was not to worry about it and it could be left on the Zumo.
2. When selecting maps to transfer them to your SD card I found some of the selections were really small and to make sure I had all of them selected it was best to zoom in to 200 miles and move the map left/right, up/down on the screen to make sure you have everything selected.
3. After selecting maps to transfer if you don't want a list of map sections showing in "Map Info" in you Zumo (Wrench > Map > Map Info) before you send the map set to your Zumo look at picture below and click on "Map Set Name" and when the window pops up uncheck "Autoname the map set" and put in what you want to name it.. IE: North America.
I now have 1.16GB space remaining on my Zumo, and 9.88GB space remaining on my SD card. One other thing I found was because of the size of some of my songs I could only fit 792 on a 4GB SD card now with the extra space on the 16GB card I will be able to reach the maximum of 1000 songs that the Zumo can recognize.
BTW earlier there was a post concerning some 16GB cards not working in the Zumo 550 I purchased a Transcend 16GB SDHC card from Amazon and it is working fine.
