When I got to Sturgis I looked at my front weights and they were barely attached to the rim, so I pulled them off. That was at 1,000 miles. Put 1,650 miles on the bike after pulling the weights off with no issues. It was thanks to this forum that I knew to look.

Why not get rid of wheel weights all together and use dyna beads?

they work great and easier to clean the wheel

I guess the answer is that the MoCo doesn't use them, so a new bike under warrenty might present 'issues' with the warrenty if the owner elected to change from weights to dynabeads.  :nixweiss: They are working very good for me.  ;) spyder

Just wondering if any of our Red brothers have had this issue or if it is the 11.5 bikes only? :nixweiss:

There have been dented fenders on the reds also.

I love this site  :2vrolijk_21:  Riding last week on the local interstate and I heard a loud noise as if a bullet hit my front fender.  Later while wiping the bike down I found the impact site and it was from inside.  Cannot check to see if I'm missing a wheel weight since the bike is at the shop tonight for an unrelated issue but given this thread I know that was the reason.  My bike will be ready tomorrow but I will be sure to deal with this issue and seek a replacement fender.  Thanks guys  :2vrolijk_21:

I see now after looking into some of the other threads that this is a problem going way back with several styles of baggers.  I wonder how many of those replaced fenders the Mo Co is repainting and putting on new bikes or paint sets?!?

I think I will stop into the dealer and see if they are willing to replace the weights before they fly off.  :nervous:

Ooooooooo,
The wheel on my CVO Street Glide, is chrome, and has a flat spot on the chrome wheel rim so the faster I go the more centifigal force presses it to the wheel.... The weights are metalic, look stainless, and are tight on there...

The problem is, the BIG BLUE Ultra does NOT have the flat spot on the rim.. The Bloody weights are on a 45 degree angle, and mine are loose...!!!Here, have a look at this picture, says it all !  Black plastic weights, twice the size, and on an angle, NO WONDER THEY ARE COMING OFF... These look like the ones on yours in America?  Waaaay wrong....  HD boo boo...

Cowboy

Knowing the experience I have had with my front wheel weights I say you have a problem.
It's not a matter of if they are coming off, it's when.

I am going to HD Australia, and they have already offered to change out the wheel weights in light of the front fender issues in America... So I take it yours look like the picture above?

The answer with that wheel is to have a weight straddle it somehow in the middle, as there is no way to put on that 45 degree angle, and not have rain and mud work the adhesive tape loose... Or maybe epoxy them on, or attach some other way..   I will post the results... :2vrolijk_21:

Caliente HD got the approval to replace my Tequila fender at no cost.  ;)  Bad thing, my wife's Road King has three that were loose on the fornt wheel.  Being rebalanced tomorrow.  I agree with SBB, "not if but when" they will come off-AGAIN   :o

Is there any chance the weights falling off could be heat related?

My weights fell off the front tire on a 100 degree day  (600 miles on the bike), I took it into the local dealer and at first they said it looked more like a rock (fender had 5 dents from the underside), but they would check with Corp.  They called the next day and said it would be covered and it takes 2-3 weeks for the new fender to arrive,  they balanced the tire and added new weights.  The following week we headed to Wausua (about 250 miles) on another 95 degree day, and the weights came off on the freeway again (3 new dents!), lucky I didn't have the new fender yet.

Chad @ Wasaua HD was awesome, 5:30 PM on a Friday afternoon, he took the bike in and replaced the weights one more time - we put on another 2000 miles that week, but it never got over 85 and the weights are still on.  I just got the bike back from the local dealer, the new fender looks great, but I am a little nervous that next year when it is hot again and the bike is out of warranty, I will end up covering that $900 fender.

I have no clue as to what is causing the weights to fly off.
There are a few suggested reasons but nothing definitive.
1)  Bad adhesive on the weight.
2)  Wheel weight to big to stick on curved section of rim.
3)  Wheel not clean when wheel weights applied.
4)  All the Harley weight weights have a recommended wait time for set up after installed. That is rarely followed.
5)  All of the above.
I have the new weights on mine and so far even at a 100 mph they are still there.
Only time will tell how long they last. Don't lose your paperwork on the original claim.
