Smoked TourPac side lights not working...
« on: August 22, 2011, 05:34:24 PM »

Well not completely that is.

I purchased aftermarket smoked TourPac side lights a couple of years ago for my '08 SEUC.  They were an easy re & re and have been working great till recently.

I just noticed that the front half of both the left & right side lights are not on.  I have unplugged them both and when I plugged them in again, still no go???  :nixweiss:

Has anyone ever had this happen or does anyone have any suggestions how to fix the problem?

Thanks for your assistance.

Have not had the issue but if you've checked the wiring (not damaged or changed) and everything worked before, odds are the LEDs are burnt. If the entire string was out I would direct you to wiring or a fuse. The fact that SOME are still working indicates burnt lights.

That being said it is very odd that it is the front half of each light. Almost too consistent to be bad (or burnt) LEDs. Unfortunately and AFAIK, the LEDs are not serviceable.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help ... let us know if you find root cause.

Problem solved!

I only just noticed the problem with my side lights on my last ride which now makes sense... Apparently when a voltage regulator begins to go, it begins to shut down things that are not needed or put another way, it used the power where it is most needed.

I was on a 150 mile ride last weekend and only a block from my destination, my bike shut down after me loosing my radio, then speedo and tach.  The side lights were the first to go which I only noticed at the beginning of the ride.  After getting it picked up and trailered to a dealer it was discovered that my voltage regulator was gone.

When I picked up my repaired bike today everything including the side lights were working great!

Thanks for all your suggestions, just the same.  :2vrolijk_21:
