Extended Service Plan Claims - Horror Story or Happy Ending
« on: September 08, 2011, 11:47:15 PM »

When I purchased my 09 SERG back in 2008 I purchased the 7 year ESP for $1800. I thought it would give me piece of mind knowing that if anything went wrong during the 7 years I was covered. Recently I had a signal light module fail and I thought for sure I was covered. The bike is at the dealership at this very moment and I still don't know if it's covered. This got me wondering what kind of experiences other had with the ESP. So lets hear it, share your Horror Storied and Happy Ending.

bribe36, I had to have one of the front fork seals replaced on my 09SEUC under the extended warranty. The cost according to the service repair order would be $312.29  All I had to pay was the $50.00 deductable. So in this case happy ending. CAHDBIKER

I paid $950 for 3 years extended service warranty in October 2008.  About 6 weeks ago the clutch hub and assembly were replaced under the extended warranty.  $849 bill.  $50 to me.  So far so good.

So far I've had my heated handgrip replaced under my ESP. Paid $980 for a total of 5 yrs coverage (2+3) including wheel & tire coverage on my 2010 SEUC. I have 19,000 miles. Also had heated seat replaced (stitching coming undone on nose) and front fairing replaced due to a blemish in the paint near the windshield at delivery. I feel like I got my money's worth already and I still have 3 years of coverage to go.

so far all those items should have covered under the the original factory warranty. ESP will NOT pay for seat stitching, or paint blemishes. being a 2010 you should still have factory warranty

My 2010 was out of factory warranty last month.

But to the question on this thread....the ESP has more than paid for itself on my last three bikes.  I expect it to be the same on this one. :2vrolijk_21:

Sadly, that gives a clear idea of just how poor H-D's quality and reliability is.  These days a Harley is one of the very few products that really needs an ESP.

I,ve read all of these replys and have say, everyone is pretty luckily in that your warranty repair coverages are getting honored. And I say this because most of you (or maybe all) have done some sort of engine mod which in since should have voided the warranty. I've been there too, but always had trouble and or threats in that, if I did not let the dealer do the mods and with screaming eagle parts the dealers would not honor the warranty. Some of you guys are doing some wild things with your motor and with non-Harley parts and still report success with warranty coverage. All good, and I think a lot has to do with the relationship you build with your dealer. There are limits as what the dealers will do for you and I found out when I installed my 131". Soon after my install, my dealer cornered me and suggested I cash in my ESP, I said why?? I still have the drive train covered. He lauged, and said not with big torque monster attached to it.. Really I said, he said REALLY... So took his suggestion and cashed in.   I'm just saying, there are limits, and having a good relationship with your dealer defiantly helps.  :2vrolijk_21:

My wife hit a pothole and just bent both rims on her Softail deluxe.....have the ESP with tire and wheel...both rims replaced no problem. With labor it came close to the price of the warranty.

In 06 I paid $1800 for the 7 year ESP.  In 09 I had a rear inner cam bearing fail & toasted the motor.  I paid $50, ESP paid $9600 for a complete rebuild.

Guess it was work it.  No hassles at all.

Happy Ending to this story. When I dropped off my bike to have the signal light checked out I also asked to have the front tire replaced and an oil leak fixed. Not only did they cover the light under the ESP but also the tire, which was totally unexpected. I went there expecting to pay anywhere between $500 - $1100. In the end I paid $112.40. I'm so happy!!!!!

Anyone know why they would replace the tire at no charge?

There were many issues initially with the '09 front tires cupping severely, and Harley did finally agree to replace the worst of them.  Was your tire severely cupped but still had significant measureable tread left?  That would be the only reason I can think of why they would replace an otherwise undamaged tire for free. :nixweiss:
