900 USD for a "performance" map??!!
« on: September 10, 2011, 09:59:55 AM »

Just picked up my 2011 Convertible from service.
While there I asked what they would charge to install a "performance" Map to replace the std European lean/clean settings.
I already have new "cat free" Sebring mufflers installed, and the intake is of course already "High Performance".
So the only thing left to do for a stage 1, is according to them the Map.

BUT!!! They want appr. USD 900 to do the 15 mins job

Is there anyway I can do this myself??

Ouch, that is terrible. You might try contacting Fullsac before paying that.

You need some additional details.  First, what exactly do they propose to do for that $900 USD?  If that includes a tuning device like the Harley SEPST and about 5 hours dyno time, it may not be far off.

The days of a dealer being able to just download a $149 "performance" map directly to your bike are long gone.  These days the only direct downloads they offer are street legal, thus not a "performance" map.  Anything worthwhile will require a tuning device like the SEPST or TTS or whatever else is available in your country.  Those devices don't come cheap.

Sounds way too pricey.  By comparison, I bought a header, baffles, TTS Mastertune, and a map for $1,100 from Fullsac.

First, I'm a total Newbie when it comes to this, but as I understood it they would just download the "Original" US Map. To get these bikes to pass European legislation, they have a special Map minimizing CO2 etc..(like in California I guess??)
Since I already had installed Cat free Sebring mufflers, I specifically asked if it needed a Dyno tune and they said
that it was not needed. "But changing the Map would be a good idea"
They claimed that I would get 10% performance improvement, run cooler and more miles per gallon.

The rest of the US (non california) map is not so great either. The bike will still run hot and lean. For that kind of money you could buy a good tuner and have the bike professionally dyno tuned to run way better than any stock Harley map could do.

X2 on the fulsac map. If he has a map that will work with your intake and mufflers I think that that is the way to go. You can do it yourself if you are computer smart or have a friend do it. I did his stage one on my 09SEUC and am totally pleased. Now if I could just get rid of that top end rattle between 2200 and 2800 that would be great. Good Luck CAHDBIKER

Ok, thanks!  Let's see if my fellow Swiss members jump in and recommend a good pro tuner.

While not absolutely contradictory those statements are contradictory enough that they should give some doubt about the shop's intent and/or skill set.  Either the tune is good enough to run well or changing it would be a good idea.  The two don't leave a lot of gray area in between.

Your going to need a screaming eagle pro super tuner.
Tts dosent have any 2011-12 maps.
your going to need the latest software and a cable set for 2011 softtail.

Really? are you sure TTS does not have them? seems odd if they didn't.

TTS does not have 2011 - 2012 Softail Calibrations but we do have Touring, Dyna, XL and Vrod. The 2012 Dyna and Softail have gone to a new ECM an no one has released anything for them that I know of but it should be coming soon.
