SE Compensator
« on: September 10, 2011, 08:51:54 PM »

09' SEUC. Every now and then bike is showing the bad compensator symptoms, kicking out and not starting on the first try. Planning on this being a late fall/early winter preventive maintance. Today I ordered the updated SE Compensator 40274-08A from Surdkye for $199.96. My question: What other worn/bad, inferior factory parts should we check and look and or replace during this maintance down time? Thanks All!
It was a perfect weather day in Chattanooga today for a ride...even if it was short miles wise.

while your changing the compensator take a good look at the rotor splines. thay could be worn if the
compensator was loose.

That was exactly what happened to my Nana last year. All was replaced along with updated compensator and starter, all under warranty. Only now I look back and wish I told them to put the chrome starter on and pay the difference...oh well! :nixweiss:

JR, this "updated" or new compensator they're discussing doesn't fit our 05s.  Different parts for us.

Thanks Don! :2vrolijk_21: I stopped by Bumpus on the way back from the doctor last week and was talking with the service manager about the compensator they replaced last year and asked if he knew if it was the updated one. He pulled it up on his computer and said the part number changed and had an "A" on the end of number. He said he could look into it but I told him don't bother, it's already in. When I saw the 40274-08A number 1sharprdkg posted as updated compensator I thought that was what I had. Does our 2005 SEEG's have a new style too? :nixweiss:

No JR, the 05 has the same type compensator that was used for years.  For us that's a benefit though.  That's the compensator that never gave any trouble.  It's only the "new and improved" piece that has had to be revised several times already and has given folks so much misery.

The newest so far.  Have to say "so far" so far as Harley keeps changing them because they haven't been holding up well since the "new" compensator came out in 07.

Huh! Maybe they should take a step back and have reliability, or is it the 110's need to be different than ours?

Several things changed.  End of the crankshaft and compensator and charging system all in combination.  It's not retrofittable from old to new or new to old.  The new guys just have to keep seeing "new and improved" compensators released every year or so and wonder "is this my last one."  :huepfenlol2:
