Was working on the ol' ladies deluxe when i reached for a can of bolts on a shelf above the mistress. knocked the table saw fence off and it landed on the front fender of the sesg2. $1263.00 touch for a new fender, so I'm getting a bandaid painted over the dent and scratch and we'll call'er good.Could have puked!!

Experience teaches you to recognize your mistake the second time you make it.  You guys make me feel better about my own screw ups. Which have been several.

Not MC Related - but...

Many years ago was working on the engine of my old Case bull dozer.  Wanted to fire up the engine to check my work.  I was standing on the left hand track, reached in and moved the gear shift to assure the transmission was in neutral.  Clicked on the key, hit the start button, and the engine fired right up.

Problem was, the transmission was NOT in neutral.   :vrolijk27:

Sucker took off in 2nd gear at about 1/2 throttle.  The track whipped out from under my feet, throwing me to the ground, on my back.  :stars:

Did I mention that I was about 75 feet from my house, and the dozer was aimed at the living room?

I jumped up, and ran after the Yellow Peril (remember, this was many years ago).  Lept up onto the draw hitch, reached over the seat and turned off the key.  The machine sputtered to a stop about 10 feet from the porch.  I was lucky the damned thing didn't run me down.

I don't believe I ever told the (ex)wife about this incident.

How friggin scary!  My cousin was backed over by a bull dozer at a job sight 3 years ago when he had his back to the dozer while directing a dumptruck where to go he lost both his legs and spent a couple months in the hospital. His prosthetics work great and he's made nearly a complete recovery but I'd thought they'd make him taller.

Dr. D, I don't know that this was carelessness, but on my 95 Heritage I had to cut off the case hardened American brand front fork lock with bolt cutters. (It is a padlock that goes thru the front fork area and the frame) I put towels over the tank and fenders, but while cutting padlock with the bolt cutters I borrowed from Bakersfield, Ca. HD I put a small ding in the tank next to the frame. ( no paint damage) Probably should have called a locksmith, but when it is 112 degrees in Bakersfield you don't want to sit around waiting for someone to show up. I was pissed at myself for not being more careful . The dent is not worth a picture, but I got the bike new in 1995 so I will include one.  It is not that noticeable. If I were to sell it I would probably have to point it out to someone. By the way even after you cut the side you can get too you still have to beat the other side with 3 lb hammer to get it off because remaining part of lock shackle will not slide thru hole in frame and fork. I think that was the most irritating part since I could have done that without the bolt cutters. Sometimes you just got to sit back and look at a problem before you jump in and try to fix it.CAHDBIKER

A buddy of mine has a Handy bike lift - that almost always has the side extensions on it.  One sad day, I watched him ride his bike onto the lift - which at the time did not happen to have the side extensions mounted - and which escaped his mind for the moment.  As he put his feet down, he quickly figured out the side extensions were missing - as he and his bike tumbled to the ground.  He was actually quite lucky, as the bike landed on him hard. The damage to both is bike and pride were fairly significant!

Ok, enough of you have fessed up so here goes.  After decades of riding and wrenching I should know better.  Installing my Motolights and some other stuff.  Anytime working with battery we all know to take wedding ring and others off right?  Well I did.  But after the whole install had been done and all back together except seat, went to wash some grit off hands and put ring back on.  When I put the seat back on I noticed my positive battery cable wasn't tight enough.

You guessed it, I grabbed a wrench and went to tighten it.  POW!  Shower of gold and chrome vanadium vapor and sparks.  Well you know how it goes.  Couldn't let go of wrench.  Welded to ring.  HOT!!  Had to take big side cutters to the ring pronto.  And was I ever glad I had some handy.  Took weeks for the skin on my finger to grow back.  Can't tell now since I used some kind of silver burn cream my neighbor the MD recommended.

BUT: I had the nicest gold plated battery terminal on the planet.  Round and melted, but nice.

NEVER pressure wash the driveway in flip-flops....  :nervous:

2700psi cuts right through the outer layer of skin and subsequently just rips it open... ... and it takes a few seconds to hurt or bleed.... but right about the time the blood finds its way out, so does the pain.... excruciating!

This was taken a few days after.. when I could walk on it again...

Wow!  I've actually done that too. There's comfort in knowing you aren't the only one.
