My turn with pos 110
« on: September 19, 2011, 06:23:27 PM »

Went for a ride yesterday and the NORMAL ticking turned into a clatter.Sounds like its coming from the whole right side and top end. Not just the tick, tick but an added clatter. Dont know what to do.I was ready to replace  the heart with a feuling cam chest kit,but I am afraid that the problem may be more extensive. Any ideas.

I think I'd take a look at your lifters...   :2vrolijk_21:

(I wouldn't start the bike again until you take a look....)

I agree with the others. Check your lifters, pushrods. May be your chance to upgrade. Are you still under warranty?
Hope it is simple. Let us know.

How many miles do you have?
Sounds familiar as I just went down that road.
Here is what I found.

I was lucky though when I took that lifter in to show the third HD tech to ride my bike and tell me "thats normal" he showed me the one he was currently working on and the axle for the roller had come out and destroyed the lifter bore.

Out of warrantee,14000 mi. and I was just doing research on camchest replacement. Cams, lifters, pushrods, bearings, oilpump, camplate. If I have to remove rocker arms then I may as well do the head gaskets for a compression bump.

If you do adjustable pushrods you don't need to remove anything in the top end.

Guppy, I know but if there is any damage to the rocker arms or shafts then I'm going deeper.

I thought so too, but I noticed a distinct difference in the tone of the horrible noise when I bent a pushrod !  :2vrolijk_21:

I had that noise and they replaced lifters, but that awful ticking is back already-- only 7000 miles on them. My whole bike has issues unfortunately.
