Thinking about selling my 2010 FLHXSE... It's worth what?
« on: September 26, 2011, 12:50:55 PM »

I'm thinking about putting my 2010 FLHXSE Tequila for sale.  It is in perfect shape, has 4100 miles on it, V&H Hi-Output Slip-ons, and I have a matching King Tour pak that I haven't installed yet.  Plus I have two seats, stock and factory Ultra-Classic seat, and 3 windshields, stock, Freedom (Dark grey 7-in) and stock clear ultra windsheild.

What would be a good price?  I don't want to make a killing but I don't want to lose too much.  What should I ask or what's it worth?

I would say you're looking at approximately $28,500-$29,000.  Remember, you have two years of SESGs after yours.  If you ask $29,000 for $3.5K more, you can get a new '12, or for about $1K more, you can get a used '11.  Unless, you find a person, that just has to have the accessories that you put on your SESG, don't expect to get much, if anything for what you've added.  JMO.

NADA Used Motorcycle Pricing

Low Retail   $22,100

Average Retail   $28,325

Trade value would be some what lower than retail.

Some accessories help but not much.

Just to give you some idea.

KBB shows $25k trade and $30k retail for a bike in excellent condition.  I'd consider those to be the absolute max numbers, and reality is likely to be a couple grand less in many markets.  If the plan is to sell it yourself rather than to a dealer, figure somewhere between those two numbers, maybe $28k.

It's been my experience that you get maybe a 25% return on accessories tops... maybe a little more for a color-matched TP. Dealers won't give you squat for accessories. A totally stock bike is easier for them to sell, and then THEY can sell the buyer new accessories at their high markup. They like that... a lot.

If you sell it yourself, the trick is to find a buyer who falls in love with the bike, and that's hit or miss at best. The Tequila Sunrise is a gorgeous color that really sparkles in the sun, though. If I were in the market (but I'm not... sorry!), I might be willing to fork over $28K for your bike with the TP. I just paid MSRP for my '12 CVO SG month ago. Plus, I paid another $2K for my TP with the docking points, rack, side lights, lock, molded liner, and removable liner.... and I don't even HAVE the TP yet. Already got the AMEX bill for it though...

Put it back to stock and it should sell for $27,500 - $28,000. Then sell the extras separately and you will get your desired price.

You will have to hurry up since fall is on the way up there and the motorcycle market will go soft.

GOOD LUCK.

Thanks for the input guys.  Lots of ideas for me to kick around.  I like the idea of going stock and selling the add ons after.  The prices you guys gave were more than I expected.  I am hoping to get close to those numbers you gave me.

Here is a little input from someone that just bought your exact bike. I recently picked up a 10 Tequila Sunrise CVO from a local dealer. The bike is in pristine shape but does have 12K miles. $5000 in options including matching chopped tour pak, V&H power duals, monster rounds, chrome cover set, aftermarket windshield, highway mounts with matching pegs and some other little stuff. Walked out the door with doc, tax and license for $27,500. Not sure if that was a good deal or a bad deal but thought it might help you regarding market value.
