Ipod on Street Glide
« on: September 27, 2011, 01:49:10 AM »

The Ipod that came with my 2011 CVO Street GlidI have e just stopped working. The bike is just under 1 yr old. I bought an ESP also. Does anyone know if the Ipod is covered by the factory under the 2 yr factory warranty or the ESP? Or do I have to contact Apple to get a new one?

You will have to take it to Apple to test it BUT when the dealership was analyzing the problem with my audio system at one point they thought that the ipod was defective. They told me that i would have to take it to Apple to get it tested......I said WOT. >:(....they showed me some clause in there maintenance manual that said something about HD being off the hook with defective ipod. I did not even look at it and said as far as i am concerned i bought the bike with a warranty from HD and it is your responsibility to do the leg work not me. So they got it tested at the Apple store. Another time i went to the parts department and asked if i could buy an ipod from them with the B&S on it and they said no. They only have enough in stock to replace ipods under warranty. :nixweiss:

Typical dealer....even if they know something today....they might not even remember that they knew that yesterday when tomorrow comes around. Same question.....three different answers from three partsmen at one dealership, that's common too....but maybe that's just my local dealer.

The dealer told me that the Ipod is NOT covered under the ESP because it is not a mechanical part but should be covered under the 2 yr factory warranty, however they are not sure and can't seem to get an answer from the factory. I went to the Apple store to get the Ipod tested and was told that it was defective. Apple only has a 1 yr warranty and I was 2 days out of warranty. The Ipod that comes with the Harley has been discontinued. They had one left (of course without the bar and shield logo). The Apple store however was willing to honor their warranty and swap out my Ipod on the spot, so I took up their offer and swapped for a new Ipod (w/o B&S) at the Apple store.

Where is the statement that the Ipod is not covered by HD?  In the owner's manual, or some other manual that only the HD dealer has?  The GPS is covered and it's made by Garmin...the same should be true for the Ipod if it comes standard on the bike, whether factory 2 year or ESP.   :nixweiss:
