I've seen a couple of guys riding these here in town, but Wednesday I was in a town 30 mile away and there was one going down the road. Here's some pics from a Cushman club web page.

I remember the Cushman.  It never ran but I traded it for a Tote Goat (it barely ran).  I first started riding on the canal banks here in the big valley.

Here's a pic of a Tote Goat that I found on the net....

My first motorized two wheeler was a Cushman.  I believe I was 15 when I got it.  It was a red Cushman Eagle.  It had a two speed transmission.  I put many miles on it.  A few years ago there was a Cushman club near my hometown.  I don't know if it is still active or not.  The last I looked, it would cost you $5,000 to $6,000 for a good Cushman from the sixties today.

Rode a blue one in 1966 and 1967,  In Colorado, back then, you could get a license to ride a scooter under 8 HP at the age of 14. We rode Cushman's and a few Vespa's back in the day. A couple of us pushed the HP limit and rode 150 cc Honda's, but I never had the money to ride something that expensive. Had to use my school lunch money to buy the gas at 25 cents a gallon. Most of the time we only had enough money for a half gallon or less. I saw a Cushman club going over the Million dollar highway from Ouray to Durango a couple of years ago. There were about 30 of them that had come from all over the country. Brought back a few memories. They had a two speed trans and a suicide clutch, although you did not need clutch to stop and go as it was a centrifugal design clutch. Use the clutch at a stop with engine wound out and it would squeal the back tire. Also first to second would throw gravel from the back tire. AHHH -- the good ole days

There are a lot of old Vespa's and a few Cushman's over in Pakistan. A friend of mine bought a restored Cushman over there. He paid about 2 grand for it. It was in great shape. There are a lot of people riding them too.

Pulled into Rabbit Hash 2 Sundays ago and there was a Cushman club there. They were all in the 70's or better as it looked to me. There were about 20 of them and one was a 2 cylinder with a Mikuni hanging off the side and straight pipes. sounded real good when he rode off.

Couldn't get the pic up on my phone quick enough of my first bike. I wanted to ask on of the old timers if it was a Cushman or just someting someone built?

I've seen a few of those around The Island (esp in Victoria) and never knew what they were. If I get a chance I'm gong to have a closer look.
