TOOL NEEDS.
« on: October 05, 2011, 06:53:18 PM »

Was wondering if this might be possible, but as we (gear heads) like to work on our bikes there are times we need special tools. These tools are used once or twice and then sit in our tool boxes never to be used again. For the guys that have these tools and for the ones that need them, this maybe a place to start your search.  :nixweiss: This will take some trust from everyone involved, but the selling and buying that I have done from this forum, I feel confident that this could work. Please fill free to add some ideas about this proposal.

Interesting idea.  You sound like perhaps you have done like I have at times.   Go buy some damn special tool to do a (one-time) job and then never have a need for it again.  Justification to do this is somewhat varied,  but in my case,  it goes like this.

One.......I want to do the job myself, and two........I believe the cost of the (one-time) tool and me doing the job is likely less or no more than the cost would have been if you sent it to the shop.

I have various items like that from doing a "streetrod" project years ago as well as other "fixes" that were needed and called for some special tool or mod to do the job.

I would presume "listing" what you have that some others might need to (rent) or buy from you might be a way to proceed if you get enough responses here.

The Handi lift is the best tool you can buy. It is well worth the money. I bought mine used & I should have done this years ago! :orange:

I'd seen a few other sites try something like this, and it usually get's messed up pretty quickly, unless you are sharing amongst a bunch of local guys you already know. Once it gets into shipping stuff around, things get lost, members disappear, etc, etc. It's almost got to be a local group within a close proximity for any hope some folks get shafted, imho.

On the lift, all I have to say is, my Handy SAM 2 is by far the best investment I ever made. I can't image a day without it. Blow my mind I waited so long.

Dude, you can make an Ignition switch alignment tool out of copper tubing for next to nothing.

Just take an 8" piece of (I think 1/4") copper tubing and take a hammer and slowly flatten about 4" on the one end. keep sticking it down the ignition switch to only flatten enough to fit down snuggly. If you go to far, the flattened section will get too wide, so check frequently.

Once you get it fit propertly, insert the tool and bend the last 2" of the other end so that points to the direction where the switch is set. So in other words, if you have it in lock, bend the top so it points to lock. then when you turn it to off, one, acc, you'll know where you are.

Very simple.

Wow...I'm humbled by the simplicity...Thanks - will give it a shot.
