No shortage of crossed threads, lost nuts, stripped bolts, or missing screws on this forum.

But once you've missed a screw, lost a nut, crossed a thread, or stripped a bolt, you won't find a more sympathetic bunch of nuts, bolts, or screws to share a thread with either.

+1 !!!

Hell, I don't worry about those T27 screws I just buy 5 at a time, and if I drop one down the trees, who cares. I usually find them later on the driveway anyhoo.   :pineapple:

I stick one of those magnetic "pencil" things, the ones that extend about 2' just under the screw.

On my list of things to do is to replace them with the studs, someday.

i have a Snap On magnetic screw driver,,  with a ratchet,,,  great tool and makes it so much easier to get that lower right screw in there,, the right side , I can get it by just reaching in that area, so it is kinda easy,,  the lower right is the fun one, :'(

You can get magnetic torx drivers at most any parts store or hardware store - but - I don't use the Torx fasteners.  I install a threaded stud (with locktite), and then use a nut w/magnetic socket...   :2vrolijk_21:
Do you know exactly how long and what size the studs are?

1/4" x 1.25" long will bottom out and leave a good working amount sticking out.  Put some red loctite on the stud so it won't back out with the nut.  I like to use a nut with a captured star washer.

That is a awesome idea to put a stud in the bottom 2 hole. I'll bring this one back to the top again....

Hey, if you'd ever cross threaded your long screw and fouled up the other side's "insert" you'd think twice about it too ??? !              :huepfenlol2:

Geez Don, I wish I could find a picture (illustration) to share with you showing how a long screw going through a dark tight hole can get cross threaded  :P  Just returning the favor  :lipsrsealed2: :lolk: :kiss2:

Great idea about the " metal stud " Now where do you go to buy one. Have a spare T27 that I will bring with me for sizing. Thanx.

Most hardware stores have threaded studs.  Though I usually just cut off an appropriate length of all thread or cut the end off a bolt since either are more commonly at hand.

I used 1/4-20 x 1.25" Socket Head set screws in mine, use an allen wrench to run them in. Much easier than the screws, the studs help hold the fairing in place while you try to remember where you laid your tools down. I line up the studs then start the center windshield screw. The only downside to the studs is they will hang on the wires if you have any that are hanging loose. I applied a few strategically placed wire ties to keep the wires up and out of the way.

Home depot now has stainless allen screws that can be used.
