Thanks Z. That's a pretty spot on assessment as to what me and my wife are finding.

So you having second thoughts Rob??  I just finished a test ride myself a few minutes ago. Actually this thread got me even more curious. I actually LOVED the bike. It is different... I've ONLY ever owned Harley (unless you count my Honda 50 as a kid)  I'm not in a position to keep the 09 SERG and do the GTL but it seriously has me wondering. My wife does ride with me sometimes but most long hauls I'm solo... she did sit on the bike and thought it was pretty comfy. Could not ride because she forgot to bring her DL to the dealer. ;/

Top pros for me were. 1) Power/Torque. That thing is ZIPPY!   2) Braking. The best MC brakes I've ever experienced. Top 2 Cons were: 1) The leg/foot position.  2) Cant hear the thing run!!!  But MAN does it run. :)

Anyway, Thanks for the postings and feedback... keep it coming!

Where to start…….

I picked the beemer up on Tuesday. Rode it 100+ miles home, mostly on the interstate.

Today we took the beemer together and rode it about 80 miles total to a lunch destination and back. My wife isn’t wild about the bike. She hates the sound and the jury is still out on the wind. She sits WAY higher on this seat/bike than on our RG Ultra so even with the adjustable shield, she still catches a lot more wind than me.

Will I keep the beemer. Yes. For now. The thing I like about it is… “it’s different”.

Rob

You may want to talk with a guy, I think his name is Pat, at Grass Roots BMW. My buddy said they have a modified windshield on their demo GTL for helping with the wind issue on the BSR. He said he did not even notice the windshield had been modified until it was pointed out to him. FWIW. I can get more details from my buddy if you want me to. I still think these are very nice scooters.  One in my garage...you just never know!  http://www.grassrootsbmw.com/

Chuck,

I had second thoughts about 20 times between the time I put the deposit down and the day I rode her home!  :P

I also did for about a day or so afterwards. Especially after the two up ride. However, when I go out into the garage each morning to ride to work , the beemer has gotten picked each time and with every mile I feel I am finding my groove so to speak. Around town, this is hands down my favorite, even with the trunk on. I even enjoy it out on the open road by myself more and more each day. If I was to ride to Kentucky right now though, I would take the CVO.

JW,

YES! PLease get me some more info on that wind screen. I would have bet money there would be no need for a windshield modification. I have read others posts on the BMW forum about the lack of wind protection, but for me alone it is more than sufficient. Mama? Not so much. Thanks!

Edit: went to the site and found a Pat Taylor. Sent him an email just now. Thanks.

Wow! That was quick. Just got off the phone with Pat from Grass Roots BMW. He called me within 5 minutes of my email being sent!

Apparently, someone at the dealer modified that screen (the factory one) for himself and long story short, it ended up on the demo. It works really well for the rider but he had no info on the BSR as the guy who modified it doesn't have a BSR usually.

Pat is going to send me some pictures of it with dimensions anyway just in case. What a nice guy. Anything I buy for this bike that is factory will be through him!

Thanks again for the info!

That was a huge one for me.  My hips felt like they were locking up as soon as I put my feet on the pegs. :nervous:

Sure does! The first time I rode the S1000RR I pulled in to a gas station after about 150 miles and almost fell over. I couldn't raise my feet off the pegs, I had to lean to the left then finally lift my right foot just enough to slide it off the peg. I'll tell you the feeling of straightening out my legs with my feet on the ground was better than sex. I thought I was going to have to call a crane company to lift me off. ;D

Rob, you're right Pat is a great guy, in fact all the guys there are terrific. Not only did I buy the K1600 from them but I've bought 3 other bikes from them previously in the last 5 years.

Rob,

You've been thoughtful and steady in setting out your evaluation and eventual purchase of the k1600 GTL. I've read with interest your posts and the replies.

I pulled the trigger on a k1600GT in late October.  Put about 1500 miles on it before the salt hit the roads.  As you know, the GT (v. the GTL) has a more aggressive setup on the handlebars and pegs, the exhaust is tuned more aggressively, there's no top case and the windscreen is cut differently.

Still love my 2010 Spiced Rum.  If I had only one ride, it'd be my HD, but you've laid out well what's unique (and different) about the BMW.  They're each a grin in their own way.

Any updates on the TBW/ABS issues with the new Beamers?

Personally,
i haven't experienced either of these. Both work fine on mine. Mine also steers straight as an arrow and has zero problems with the USB or iPod/iPhone hook up. Just got my iPhone cable in today ($14 shipped) and it worked perfectly. I just wish the stereo sounded as good as the one on my CVO! My salesman said the Germans are not as concerned about the quality of music or any music for that matter while riding a motorcycle.  :nixweiss: Maybe one day!

That says it all!

Congrats on your newest ride. I saw one when I went to pick mine up. It sure was purty!  :2vrolijk_21:

WARNING: Test riding a BMW K1600 GTL MIGHT cause you to loose $26000 out of your bank account. The bike lives up to the written hype. I love it! A big thanks to Rob who answered my pm's and took the risk and time to start one of the best threads on the K1600 available from the interenet.
