Thanks, Bill...those guys are really good at panning while shooting at just the right shutter speed/aperture to both blur the background and the wheel movement.  From the momentary glance I got of their cameras, it looked like they were shooting 70/200 2.8 VR lenses on both cameras.  Not easy to do from my experience

I'm fortunate to now have the Trinity of Nikon 2.8s for my D700...now if I can only take pics half as well as you can!

I really didn't care for any of the pics of my bike, most are either washed out or parts of the bike are cut off, zoomed in a bit much. Also think the pricing is a high.
I'm guessing he is shooting in high speed continuous, which puts some limitations on the camera.

BTW, the "Devil's Triangle" is northwest of Knoxville. Kathy, Brian and I road it either last year or the year before.

You could tell that from zipping by? I couldn't even tell canon camera brand.

Don't know where I got that it was the Devil's Triangle...must have been looking at that at the same time I was looking at the Devil's Staircase.  I'm old and get confused easily...

I can recognize a pro Nikon body pretty easily, and a 1/2 second glance at a 70-200 2.8 is enough...it's a very distinctive lens.

They only shoot in jpeg,  12 MB files, so CH shooting is not a problem.  I'm not saying I could do it, but with enough practice I could.  Panning is not an easy thing to do, but the efffect is very nice when pulled off.

Bill...you've got the Holy Grail of Nikon glass there...all great lenses.  I sold off all my really fast glass when I finally got rid of all my film bodies.  For the kind of stuff I like to do, DX is fine.  At the moment, I have the 10-24, 16-85 VR, and the newer 70-300 VR.  I also throw the 50 1.8D in the bag if I need something fast for low light and zoom with my feet.  But most of my shots are at f/8 or more, on a tripod, so I'm in the sweet spot of most any lens.  The 16-85 VR gets the most use...great little lens on DX and a very usable range.  It has very quickly become my favorite lens ever.

If I could, I'd have the D3s and your three lenses.  The D700 is also an excellent choice.  It's all about to change within the next year...D4, D900, D400.  I'll wait for the D400s before I upgrade my D300, if at all.

Terry, Thanks for reminding us about the photograher. We got our picture today and you and Rio Red were right behind us. Did anyone else in our group get their pics?

Nice pic, Ralph/Jill...I thought that was an especially good shot of Jill.  She looks very relaxed and comfortable.  Good riders in the group that day... :2vrolijk_21:

Terry

The conversation tonight is a new 2011 RG Ultra we found in Florida deciding what to do? Jill and comfort (creature features) are winning out  :)

Hope you are well

Did all my early "training" with panning At Raceway Park, Englishtown back in the 70's.
Nothing like trying to get a fuel car in the traps to hone your skills.

Since Jill seems to love it so much, it's pretty much a no-brainer... ;)
