'11 CVO FLTRUSE "Shocking Grips"
« on: October 16, 2011, 08:46:22 PM »

Has anyone experienced "Shocking Grips" with their late CVO's? I believe that the problem is related to the heated grips and is isolated to the right / throttle grip on my bike. I guess it could also be related to FBW / TPS sensor wiring but the bike runs out great with no issues.

Ride Safe!

i had the same problem on my 2009 CVO Ultra. Carried it back to dealer and after a day found a pinched wire for the radio antenna. Not a shocking problem since.

So thats what it is...  I thought I was nuts.  11 CVO FLTRUSE.  I have been noticing if my ungloved hand rides up the grip and touches the switch housing I get a pinch or a prick.  Now that I think about it It is most likely a shock.  I was thinking there was something sharp pricking me but when I feel the area it is smooth.

WOW, from the title of this thread I thought something completely different. I pictured a wife with a remote control used to shock the rider's hands if he went too fast for the wife. Kinda like a dog shocking collar.

My 09 also had that problem until the third set of heated grips was put on, been good since shock wise.

Don't have one on them fancy schmancy new bikes, but I occasionally get a light shock from the air cleaner housing to my leg. I'm guessing a static build up at certain air flows.

LOL GtreetSlide!
My wife just leans in and says my Sir name through gritted teeth (doesn't work)...

"Shocking" grips in the control of a female passanger would be very bad...

Had the same problem, left side. Took a meter and read 14.6 volts from grip to ground. They replaced grip, didn't mention a pinched wire, problem was gone.

I did the same thing yesterday. Measured the voltage from the chrome outer grip to ground with engine running and it's 14.5 volts on both grips. That can't be normal. I'm surprised that there isn't a recall or bulletin on this problem yet. Will arrange to have both heated grips replaced.

BTW, the Heat Demons heated grips on my Dyna and the wife's Deluxe are great. Simplicity = Reliability!

Ride Safe!

Shocking Heated Grips
« Reply #12 on: March 19, 2012, 08:51:22 PM »

This has been discussed before but wanted to chime in for those with the shocking grip problem.  I noticed a while back that it felt like I was being shocked when my hand touched the switch housings for my grips (felt like someone was sticking me with a pin).  When I read this post http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?action=post;topic=67743.0;num_replies=11 a while back it made me realize I had the same problem.  Recently I had my ride in for service and I remembered to mention this to the tech.  It was recognized as a problem and my heated grips are being replied under warranty.  The bad news is that my ride has been at the dealer for almost 2 weeks waiting for the parts.  I'll keep you posted on the outcome.
