damaged fender from chrome weights
« on: October 24, 2011, 12:37:11 PM »

I just posted about some damage caused by a chrome weight and my pictures did not make it because of the size... here they are resizes.
Also I have read that other riders have had the same isssue but it seems that olst are to the front fender not the back. I wish mine was on the front that would be m,uch easier tio fix...
Anyway hopefully these will post this time.
Feel free to conatct me with any comments or suggestions.

Great now the back too. I have seen several front fender dings but this is a first. Hope you get it taken care of without issues.

Just got back from my local dealer and HD MoCo is picking up the tab for the fender... giving me a new one... should be here within 8 weeks and installed ASAP.
Is this a great company or what!.
Will up-date when completed.

Maybe when they can install wheel weights without having them fly off and damage fenders, then they'll be a great company...   :nixweiss: :huepfenlol2:

It's pretty sad that folks think it's a great company just because they actually lived up to the warranty without first trying to jerk the customer around.  When did expectations become so low that living up to a legal contract became reason to rejoice?  Wait until your chrome pits and/or peels and they tell you it's caused by the environment or something you did so they won't pay, then see if they are still a great company. ;)

Good luck with that fender replacement. I was rear ended 5 days into this new bike and had to have a new rear fender. I found out Harley no longer puts the metal clips under the fender for the wiring harness. They now have a plastic tube and they are glued to the fender! Shortly after getting my new fender a brother told me I had no brake light. Upon inspection I found the wiring harness hanging down on the tire and was tore all to CHIT! The dealer cobbled it back to gether and told me it was glued to stay this time. So far its holding but always in the back of my mind. Not something you want with a new $30k bike!

I don't think they make the weights... they just put them on and the double sided tape failed.
What they might want to change is to use the beads and "NITRO" to balance the wheels... though I have heard pros and cons about that method too...At least no fender damage with that.

I will stand by my comment... They are a great Company.... you can have a bad experience with anything man or machine made... it's the way they they handled the problem is what I am referring to.... besides the fact that they have make the bike of my choice for over 35 years!  :)

To the last post... I am aware of the wire harness on the rear fender ... I have had no problems with mine...

To Jerry,
If you find ANYONE these days that takes responsibility for a problem I think that's special. As far as what might happen when it comes to the chrome... keeps lots of wax on hand, use it and don't worry about it.
Enjoy life...it's much too short! :)

Have the same style dent in my 2011 CVO Ultra - and ....  A missing wheel weight, both on the right side of the front fender.  Called the stealer and they said to bring it in for a look - it "should" be covered ??

It's a CVO.  If your painted fender is here in 8 weeks count your blessings.

I must be blessed...lol
The fender was here within 2 weeks and our local dealer put it on immediately... all paid for by mo co. Unbeknownist (is that a word?) to me our dealer corrected the recalled brake wire issue when they replaced the fender... that was a pleasant surprise! No extra down time... 8)

UP-DATE:

OK ....  On Sat, Cartersville HD ordered a fender under warranty !!

Also,  they found the shift lever where it connects to the trans shaft (behind the primary) very loose.  He said "many" are having this problem.  Just a twist on the allen head, but rather difficult to get to !!  May want to check yours ....

Thanks for the info on the shift lever... I noticed something was up yesterday when riding my 012 SG and that makes sense of it... I'll check mine asap.
