Glad to see your still here to tell us about it. Sounds like you have a tibia plateau fracture. I basiacally did the same thing 3 1/2 years ago when a car flew by me and cut in front of me in heavy traffic. He slammed on his brakes to keep from rear ending the car in front of me and when I hit the brakes the front end tucked under and down I went.I hit a patch of sand on the road that had washed down on the road. Kinda scary sliding down the road at 65 mph on an Ultra. I still have no idea how the bike righted itself and I finished riding to work. Only damage to the bike was where it slid on the highway peg and the botom edge of the driver footboard. I hope your knee didn't end up as bad as mine, because breaking the weight bearing part of your tibia is something I hate to see anyone go through after having done it. I wasn't wearing a helmet at the time but do all the time now because I know how bad it would have been if I had hit my head on the pavement. Good luck on the recovery.

I believe he means Palm Frond.  Still, could have been much worse.  At least you'll be able to ride another day!   

On the wear or not to wear helmet issue:  I've ridden both with and without lids over the years, knowing fully well the consequences.  At this time of my life, I believe wearing a helmet is just like insurance; you never want to use it for the purpose it was intended, but hopefully it will save you from serious head injuries.  None of us plan to have it happen, but when it does, I'm glad to have the extra protection. 

If the laws in california changed today, I'd still wear my helmet.  My head, my choice.  What anyone else chooses is up to them.  It's their families who whill have to deal with those consequences...juz sayen.    No matter, I do not think less of those who do not wear them.  It's their life, their choice.
