563 Cams on a 110 Convertible
« on: November 16, 2011, 04:00:58 PM »

I stopped by my local HD shop yesterday to get my brake light switch recall fixed and they just happened to start tuning a 2011 CVO Convertible with 10.5-1 flat top pistons, HD's 563 cams, 58 mm throttle body and a set of polished stock heads ( I refer to these as fluff & buff-new springs with scuffed intakes and polished exhaust ports). The shop had just done the work a couple of weeks ago but could only get something like 80 HP out of it and the guy was pissed. (Note! That tech no longer works for the shop)

They put it on the dyno and sure enough 1st run: 80 HP.

2nd run: 111 HP/ 115TQ
3rd run: 119 HP/ 119 TQ
4th run: 121 HP/ 122 TQ

The tuner stopped for a while to let things cool down and to give him time to make some final adjustments. He said he needed to get the afr smoothed out a little better but he figured he would end up around 125/125.

I had to leave before he was done but it sure sounded pretty bad ass! Oh, couldn't tell if it quieted down the motor rattle because the bike was race car L O U D.

WOW, I NEED MOTOR WORK NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry about that. I'm pretty sure he said 263.

My fingers are not working too good.

It is an interesting cam set. On paper looks like it can get the job done if the exhaust cooperates.

It was real funny just watching the tuner enjoy the process. Like I said, I'm pretty sure he said 263's. It sure sounded tough.

The tuner said the shop was embarrassed by the build. That's why they got rid of the tech. The tuner said the tune that the tech put in was completely wrong. He said it was so bad that he was surprised that it even ran.
