Leather Tour Pack problems?
« on: June 28, 2006, 12:37:00 PM »

The "ostrich" leather on my tour pack is puffing up and pulling away from the hard surface under it. Anyone else had this problem.

Mine's doing it to.  Saw several at Cripple Creek that were doing it, but it appeared that it was heat related.  When cooled down, the panel went back to proper shape.  Mine HAS NOT gone back smooth since coming home.  I'll hit my guy up about this next week.  Anybody have any experience with their dealer?

Mine is coming loose too. Very discouraging on a premium motorcycle like ours. I pointed it out to my dealer during my last service visit and they claimed it was just the nature of the material when subjected to changes in the weather. They said to use H-D leather dressing on it to help draw the material back.  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]
Having just returned from my first major trip on my CUSE (which I love), the tour-pak is the weak link. I'm seriously considering replacing it with a King-Tour to regain lost storage space. I'd already replaced the seat with a Corbin and couldn't be happier. The custom ostrich dual tour seat is AAA+.  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Call me crazy but seems to me that you shouldn't have to replace parts off a $33k bike if it was built right in the 1st place. Customization is, however, another story, If Corbin can make a comfy good looking seat, HD should be able to do the same. IMHO  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

I've noticed the same on mine but everytime I've had it at dealer it looks fine.   :'(  I'll be swinging by this weekend for my 1k service and see what happens.  I'll post update if I get any info.

Mine looks fine.  I have kept at it pretty regular with the Harley Goop they provided.  On my third container and only 2500 miles.  Don't really know if it makes any difference, but it stays clean and shiney anyway.

LOL...third container and 2500 miles...I've got over 17K and barely used the first one... [smiley=nixweiss.gif]  At my rate I may never have to buy more goop.  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

The cow didn't lubricate itself that much....LOL.

My ostrich is fine but check out the leather on the top edge of the lower section near the lock release is yours all scratched up?  I saw several at CC that had the issue.  Must be from the chit we hold when opening it.

Yeah, finger nails...stuff I'm holding...it gets all scratched up...the leather stuff seems to take care of it pretty good though...

I've used the leather cleaner and conditioner with reularity.  I have noticed that the leather changes with the weather; looser when hot and tight when cold.  So far no real problems.  Maybe the goop really does work [smiley=nixweiss.gif]
