Scott, thanks for your support of this website.     I am not very good at understanding the complexity of this.  I had an earlier posting that you may be able to help answer.

Question:  If done in layers, although it may not be optimum performance, what is the opinion about replacinng the SE255 cam with the Woods 777 cam and leaving the compression stock for a future upgrade.   This is for a stock CVO 110 motor (ventilator intake and non-cat exhaust).  Would I get a big boost in performance to start and then a greater improvement with a 10.5 compression upgrade I can do later.  Thanks.

You may be surprised how well that approach would work without head work if you just add a touch more compression.
So if I was approaching this and the heads were to remain stock I would mill the head (only .030) using a .030 head gasket, use adjustable pushrods, and the TW777. You may just be happy right there.

Don't want to go off topic too far, but what is the advantage of adjustable pushrods if you are taking the heads off anyway? Aren't those used usually to save time when doing a cam to not have to pull the rocker boxes?

Head milling and the shorter head gasket change the stack height. Proper lifter preload helps the motor run quieter.

The install of the 777 will negate the have the "hit" the 255's generate, w/o the additional compression.
They will, however, pull harder into the mid-upper rpm ranges. :)

I talked to Scott at Hillside in detail yesterday about this cam, his recommendation is the cam is a great cam but the heads need to be reworked in order to get the compresion to about 10.4-5 to1 to get the low hit back, just doing the 030 head gasket won't help that much.  [If I understood him right] ? MY KNOLADGE IS VERY LIMITED!! I orderd the the 777's and Woods lifters, as well as all the Fueling parts needed to do a complete cam chest install over the winter, HD dealer will get the bike once the parts come in to do the install. Also have BR'S custom handlebars, that are going to need exteded cables, Monotubes, Fullsac X pipe, and Ipod interface, to be installed while at the dealer, so the buck stops there!! I wont have any dyno #'s untill this spring when I go back to the tuner. If I can find the $$$ I will Have the dealer pull the heads and send them to Scott @ Hillside for his Stage II headwork.     "DH"

Caught myself in curious mode so i went to check on my build and love the sounds during a heat cycle. Woods 777, 10.5 pistons, fueling lifters, adj pushrods, ported heads, throttle body and injectors, and fat cat with big boar quiet. the pipe roared real nice and the cam appeared to be as quiet as stock. now to wait till tuesday to have her broken in on the dyno and see where she is at.
