Back in 2007 or 08 a friend of mine sat on the porch just a little too long and when he finally decided to go for a CVO Ultra he couldn't find one anywhere.
Not wanting to feel defeated, he purchased a "custom colour", "limited edition" Jake & Elwood Blue Ultra. He then proceeded to turn it into a CVO.
Believe me, I tried to tell him to watch that he doesn't go crazy because getting his money out would prove to be very difficult... He of course didn't listen to my very sound advise and continued with his build project.
He did it up top to bottom including chroming everything, a 110 engine, power locks, heated seat etc. making it with every accessory he would have enjoyed with a real CVO. By the time he was finished he had close to $60k into this bike when the CVO Ultra that year was going for $41k CND.
He was quite proud of his bike and there's no doubt it is a real beauty, but not a CVO. And yes, it has won many 1st Place finishes in various Show & Shine competitions, but with everything said & done it is still an Ultra that has been customized and NOT a CVO!
At this point the only thing left for me to suggest to him was a personalized license plate, which this time he did follow up on my suggestion and now has a plate the reads... "MYCVO".
This of course is the perfect way to describe my friend's bike.
