Mike,
Thanks for posting the pics. The show was pretty much as it has been the past few years. I really had nothing special in mind to buy, although I kept my eye out for that Powerlet socket like Van has on his new bike. So it was a BIG surprise when I came away with a NEW SEAT at NO CHARGE. Yes, you read that right, a new sear for free, and here's the back story.
A month and a half ago I rode down to the local dealership that sells all the popular Japanese bikes as well as Ducatis, Spyders and SeeDoo Polaris wave runners. They were holding a huge open house with lots of vendors. There was a booth by Saddleman, the maker of my RoadSofa saddle. The seat had been bothering me lately so I rode over to their tent to ask them if I could get some new foam installed. The salesman looked at the seat and said he could not remember when they last made that seat. I mentioned that I've had it on 3 Ultras and that it is at least 11 years old. He said that over the years and miles I eventually crushed down the foam and wore it out. He gave me a card and said to call them next week for an appointment. I never did.
At the Long Beach bike show I ran into the same saleman who remembered me. We got to talking and he asked why I never called or came by. He gave me his card with his cell phone number on it and said that when I come by, they will ask me a few questions, take some pictures and I can leave with a new seat at no charge. I guess they never saw a customer keep a seat that long through three bikes. They consider me a loyal customer and wish to use me for testimony.
So tomorrow I'm calling! Nothing like the incentive of a new Saddleman RoadSofa seat.
