Heated Jacket Liners
« on: December 30, 2011, 01:43:17 PM »

OK I have $200 from my kids to get one.  Prices from 119 up to 275

I looked at the HD unit yesterday... quality product, fits nice, comes with everything you need to start using it.  Even a thick owners manual...and a thick 272 price tag

Royal Distributing has some for $169 that look good so will have to drive to Toronto to try the sizes on... but it looks like it uses older tech, as the power numbers are pretty high

I read that Gerbring has some but I have to buy that stateside if I want it

What are you guys using?

Love my gerbings, quality piece.  There have been days I wouldnt have taken a $1000 for it!!
Gerbings are similar to Harley in that regardless where you go, it's about the same price give or take a dollar or two. Pretty sure that Gerbings is who makes the Harley line.

By the way, there is a big difference in heated clothing.  For instance, some have heated collers while others don't, some have more loops of heating element than others.  When I did my research a few years back, Gerbing had more coils or more loops than any other heated jacket liner......body front and back, arms, coller, etc. :2vrolijk_21:

The fine print for the Gerbing Clearance Center:

NOTE: We sell B-stock products. Products sold on this store are fully operational but may contain a slight flaw, minor blemish, or the product may be slightly used, but still in close to new condition. Some products may be 100% new but are being discontinued by the manufacturer. All products sold through HeatedClothingOutlet.com are sold as is. ALL SALES ARE FINAL.

And the warranty page for the Clearance Center....  http://heatedclothingoutlet.com/warranty.shtml

Also keep in mind that the outlet sells the older versions - which I believe to mean NOT the microwire. The microwire is much nicer and more comfortable.

I did however notice the gloves are the later versions.

I have both but I'm still not sure what all the fuss is about.  Still have to plug it all in to a temperature controller, etc. :nixweiss:

gerbing makes the HD heated gear..........and it's easier if you are on the road and have a issue, most HD dealers have items in stock.

I use the HD heated gear. Both the jacket liner and the gloves work very well.

No conception how many coils etc.  But, the First Gear jacket I have works really well.  I've ridden a 10 hour day with them in complete comfort.  Good value, I think.

I had the old style and now the new microwire.  The microwire heats up much, much faster - darn near instantaneous.  And the garmet seems more flexible.  I like the microwire.   :2vrolijk_21:

true...Gerbings makes all H-D's heated gear, except they are often cheaper for same item than HD. /i have the "old" technology and find it very comfortable.  How flexible do you need it to be? The key is to just get a VEST not a jacket; much less bulky and as long as your chest is warm, you'll be warm.

I would get a Jacket liner not the vest.  Wife had a vest, then sold it for a Liner.  Reason was to fold, some times the arms got cold, but also a pain to use heated gloves with the vest.  Much easier with the jacket liner as the gloves plug into liner sleeve.

She like my 119 gerbing gloves much better than her 169 HD gloves.

All the rest of our heated gear is now Gerbing.  Jacket liners, gloves, outer heated pants and socks.  Pants are old style wire, her socks are old style.  Our liners, my socks and gloves are micro wire.  The wire is much thiner, heats quicker, its the way to go.

I live in Ottawa, Canada... I need all the heat I can get:)  Normally ride so long as no snow or salt on the roads, which means temps in the 28F to 40 in late fall.  I also will get heated gloves so the liner works.  Everyone here uses the jacket liner.. If I lived in Philly, it would be a vest for me.
