Actually..... I've been told (by the kid at the parts counter) that that rear lower light and side cover kit/thing is in fact VIN restricted to FLHX/I bikes.  So without having the FLHX in the garage they don't want to sell you one.

I'll not comment, however, on why I was asking the kid at the parts counter about availablity of this little thing......

Keep trying dealers till you find one Don. Probably only about 50% actually make the choice between a sale and doing right by proprietary vehicles. Might be the voices in my head (1)  but I thought someone said you could get anything from Chicago H-D.

When my bike came in and I was looking it over and saw the fender light, I went straight there too.  Damn dealers with ethics, it seems like you just take a VIN and order the dumb thing.

Not that easy out here either.

I don't know Spider.  When trying to get that stupid 04 rear fender emblem to stick on my 05 I called several shops.  No one played ball.  Lots of guys had the same luck when trying to score an 05 tour pak emblem.

With Chicago HD I have had them actually call me back to get a VIN before completing an order.  Was when I was ordering replacement pieces after my chopped tour pak got stolen last year.  Don't even remember which it was.  But the base was VIN restricted while the top was not; or vice versa.  Was weird as a combination like that.  But without supplying the VIN Chicago HD wouldn't then have supplied me whichever part it was that was restricted.

I don't know how much of it is ethics Rog; or a de facto penalty system imposed by HD against the parts departments that get caught screwing up.  Whether it's actually imposed (much) or not one of the rotating staff that used to be at the parts counter here once showed me a printout that detailed dollar penalties for scamming CVO parts through the system.

Also don't know how much that same thing might apply to the FLHX light and rear treatment.  I just took it as karma, however, and decided it was meant to mean that I wan't supposed to have to screw with getting the whole thing painted to match.

Did you?  Did you score one?  Not fair, your son did it for you.  So not fair.

I actually tried about 10 phone calls worth one week then just set up an auto search on eBay.  That's been the limits of efforts since then.  That's ok though.  I've just got one word for you my friend:

Don, are you talking about the "V" on the bottom of the rear fender? If so... does that mean that if 'mine' fell off and I wanted another one, they'd sell it to me?  ;)   Let.me.know.if.I.should.ask.my.local.shop!

That's it exactly Garz.  That little emblem is a VIN restricted part just for you 04 guys.  I think it's used again on the 06s too.  But in 05 we got the lower license plate bracket and the STUBTOTBF (i.e, the little round black plastic stick on disc).  No style.  No nothing.  I tried a few different things back there and none were great.  Currently it's just a standard cheap eBay score of a standard Road King emblem.  But I keep my eye out for anything better.

Actually I must admit the thought had crossed my mind. :) Somewhere I remember reading/hearing that there had been the potential for water/condensation getting in that light and I had reconsidered. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Like questionable parts is new on a Harley?  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

I'd bet every SEEG and Ultra here gets a lot more than condensation in their front marker lights......

Since I have both a 2004 SEEG & 2006 FLHX, does that mean that I can only order one of the parts in a lifetime, or as many as I need since they misteriously dissapear ::)
