Sorry to hear about this...it's tough because they are one of the few creatures that absolutely love unconditionally and all they ask in return is for us to pat 'em on the head and take good care of them.  In time you can give another canine friend a great home.

I feel sorry. I can understand your feelings (have 2 Ridgebacks and 2 other dogs before since I was a teenager).

Thanks for all of your kind and thoughtful replies; Cody was at one point a joint custody dog, but has been with me 100% for the past six years or so; I work from home so it was almost like having a child in the house.  Everything including my choice of car was influenced by my buddy.

Here's another one of 'his' toys - he sure will be missed.  Thanks again for sharing my loss.

Sorry for you loss.  I know it's hard when you lose a canine friend, but can't imagine ever living without one.  They bring so much joy to our lives and ask for so little in return.  I know our 3 always make me smile when I come home from a rough day at work.

gaphatty, I know your pain, sorry for your loss. Four or five best buddies over the years that has truly left their mark on my heart. Unconditional love, wish more humans understood the concept. Hopefully another companion will come along to fill the void. Cherish the memories. And celebrate because of them. :(

I am sorry for your loss, I know how it Feels.  My last Female chocolate lab was with me 14 years when she passed.  It was very rough, and took me two years before I got another Dog. I now have a 2.5 year old Female Lab, my first yellow, and she is almost white.  She love the water, we live on a lake and my boat has never moved without her on it.  The boat is her favorite place
