HD buys enough of their equipment ...
I snipped your post here because it's a fine line that needs distinction. H-D
commissioned H/K to build their head unit. They didn't buy it "off the shelf". It's a fully engineered product based on H-D specs. Since H-D designed the exact .. and I mean EXACT specs for the H/U - only H-D can commission a change. Do they have significant pull with Harmon? - Probably.
I'll maintain that Harmon can only act on a fix if given the approval from H-D.
I realize there are a lot of other electronics that interface with each other on the bike - but it would only take about 12-18 months for any company to fully re-engineer a different system - and MoCo probably could increase their profit margins.
Agreed ... but - it would have to be engineered based on H-D specs. The "third-party" is not the one on the hook to support, integrate, and fix issues. H-D is. Going to a different vendor simply is not an option for H-D at this point. Conversely - the H/K system is one of the best I've ever seen for future enhancement, functionality, and integration into the bike. Harley needs to take the neccessary actions to fix this problem - Harmon needs to be "at the helm" to write the code. It's Harley's issue ... not H/K's
I think we should install the TIF2 system as standard equipment!!!!!
Thanks!! - could you imagine ME designing the next CVO audio system?
It might actually sound "CVO Worthy" -
