Twolanerider..... I 100% agree!

Does anyone know of a good shop in the Kansas City area?

Which dealership in the KC area has been doing this?  Gail's and their tuner has a good reputation.  Or at least they had.  Things can always change.  But I know several people who have had good work done there.  I've had my hands on a few bikes tuned there and never felt/saw anything to complain about.  If it's a dealerhip in that area you're looking for (and they've not been your problem so far) they could be worth a shot.

The old Worth (North), however, I've heard of several problems out of.  There are some indie shops in the KC area that have been there a long time.  I'd want to call some of the locals I know in the area before making any suggestions though.

Glens, thanks for the information on the V&H pipe problems, that's the first time that I've heard that.

Twolanerider, Not Gail's, it was up North.  Someone said that a guy named Chris over on the Kansas side is pretty darn good.

That may be the old Central Harley that was on the Kansas side.  They closed last year.  Don't know how reliable "someone" might be as a reference but I've watched the guy at Gail's run his dyno and seen some of his work first hand.

They are on the south side of KC.  But if you're coming all the way to town from Albany anyway what's another 20 minutes to feel better about the choice?

Twolanerider,

I would be happy to drive the extra miles to obtain first class service!!

Have you ever heard of Turkey Creek Cycles in Meriam, Kansas?  That's where a tech named Chris works that has been recommended to me.

Sure have.  Don't take this as gospel but my knowledge of that shop is that it's more inclined toward custom builds and "fancy" work.  They're fabricators.

Even if they're very good at that it isn't really the kind of work you need.  It's pretty.  There's a certain cachet to saying "I had my bike worked on Fu-Fu Custom Builders where their paint work gives everyone a woody; even the girls."   But.....

Sounds like you need good basic diagnostic and mechanical shop.  A place that does the nuts and bolts day in and day out rather than one that uses the nuts and bolts work to fill the gaps in between the show-off stuff.

If you have to drive an extra 500 miles to get it done right and get it done right the first time......then it's worth the trip.  You've been going to the same dealership for four years with no success.  However close they were, it was to far!

Hell, after four years it'd be worth the winter down time to ship the thing Jim.  Get it fixed before spring then fly out and ride it home for a great break-in road trip.

With all the money he has thrown at it so far, that's not a bad idea.....

Sometimes it's hard to bite that final bullet MJ.  Admit defeat so you can start over again and get something right.  But one certain yes (no matter how expensive) is nearly always cheaper than multiple and repetitive maybes.  Watching some of our brethren beat their heads against the proverbial wall trying to adjust, tweak, correct or avoid the I'm-a-dumass-feeling of bad initial choices is just heart breaking sometimes.

Hell, I've done it.  Foolish enough to take Zippers word and the advice of a site member whom I thought knew more than he really did and didn't do my homework.  Got snockered on that build.  Screw it.  Tore it down and did it again the way I should have the first time.  Did my own homework and the things runs like a striped ape.  I'd quote Carl Hubbard here.  But don't want to step on his copyright.

I see that this started with the exhaust change but what cams do you have? If they put 255's in you might have miss stamped cams. Mine is/was an early 2008 and I found that Harley had a bunch of mis-stamped cams at that time. Went though all of the changing exhaust tuners etc. finally found out the cams were mis-stamped. Always ran like a turd until the change. Now it runs like a 110 should.

Twolanerider,

Who is Jim, where is he located and how do I contact him or them?  That sounds like a hell of a good idea to me.  I'm beyond ready to get it fixed correctly.

Brassspike,

Thanks for the info on the miss stamped cams.  I'll be sure to check those out.

Jim is a site member here with shop in northern California.  So it's a stretch.   Though members from as far away as the east coast have sent him their bikes.   If the bike comes out of his shop and you've done as he suggests the bike will be fixed.  If really interested send a message to site member hd-dude.   Gail's is a tiny bit closer and has a good reputation.  Jim is a sure thing and gives you an excuse for a great ride home.

I couldn't agree more  :2vrolijk_21: You need to take it somewhere else but not back to that "crap" place you took it before  :trailer: trailer it if you have too.

Cowboy...If Don (Twolane) has verified that the work at this Gail's place has been good in the past, and the same guy(s) are working there, that would be my next stop.  With all the things you've spoken about, there are several possible issues mechanically that COULD be wrong, and no amount of tuning is going to fix that sort of thing.  Sounds to me like whoever gets their hands on the bike next needs to start at square one and verify that the original work (mechanics) was done correctly, then go from there.

Then again, if you're looking for a good excuse to ride from Northern California back to Missouri, sending the bike to Jim is like money in the bank...it'll be right, or it won't leave his shop.
